I want to say that both are fine when appropriate, but I'm not sure that most books would be considered as appropriate. Most of their books seem to be general in nature and general should not contain such art.

Now, if they made a setting book in a dark, gritty world, then I do believe that it would be appropriate.

Well I personally enjoy blood, nudity, adult themes, and gore. However since WotC wants to bring is as many 10-13 year old gamers as possible I suspect they will keep things tame/cheesy.
That's right. 10-13 year old gamers are never interested in seeing that kind of thing. Hear hear.

I despise purely pornographic art in my roleplaying sourcebooks. Don't get me wrong, there's a time and a place, but the nerdgasmic material should stay locked far away in the Book of Erotic Fantasy and not in an all-ages core rulebook. We're trying to grow the hobby, people.

I don't have any problems with nudity or gore in RPGs, but I want it to be gritty and mature, not sensationalist. I go to RPG books for immersion, not titillation. I'm very annoyed with illustrators or editors who are fine with crassly sexualized presentations of fantasy characters but suddenly get prudish at the suggestion of nipples.

(Thus, the degree of sex or violence doesn't matter--though I can't see when explicit sex or extreme violence would be called for, creatively--but the presentation does. I don't think cheesecake is ever acceptable, although I've seen books that are, given their settings, appropriately sexy (White Wolf's Vampire, the Conan RPG) without being adolescent.)

Don't get too excited about the poll results. As of right now, 5 people have voted for "Yes, I like both nudity and gore like in Conan. I am a female gamer." I'm pretty certain that three of them are male.

The only thing that lies more than internet polls are politicians. :)

Where's the option for us gay gamers to demand just as many exposed loincloth-fillers as breasts? I for one demand an end to the gender-unequal sexual repression we've had to put up with for so long! For every medusa, dryad, or nymph, I want an elf, titan, and minotaur flaunting what the Gods gave them.

I like such art but don't think it should be in D&D core rules books as their objective should be to reach as wide an audience as possible.

On the other hand putting it in might help it to reach a wider audience.
Guess I'll answer option 1.
