The kobold head rolls away to a mix of cheers and boos. Extra bodies have cleared away from both the north and south portcullis and the gates have begun to crank open.

You see the silhouettes of three medium sized humanoids to the south and one to the north. From the looks of things, they've got swords.

[sblock=ooc]The next group of enemies rolled a 15, so Dalvach and Nyar can take a full round of actions before them. This is not a rest. The portcullis does not block line of sight or line of effect.[/sblock]

OOC: Just subscribing. You need to worry at the moment you see only one siluethe  I already planned fight alone vs. multiples and you'll be wonderful test of that (esp if I get initiative)

modest, maybe you should be more modest with your healings, let the wizard withdraw instead of going forward and keep it for the times front liners get at or under 25%-30% hp

[sblock=OOC] Nah, my powers dish out surges too so it's no big deal. The way I see it, I've got 3/4 possible surges to throw out still. Maybe it's just my overwhelming optimism. *shrug* Also, there was a matter of preservation..when the mage gets dropped to 50% and there's only three of us? First round we got rushed and if I have to drop my daily (god help you all) because of that, well all the better for us! Cheers. B-) [/sblock]

Dalvach squints against the dim light where the silhouettes stand. A furtive thought of putting on his spectacles is dismissed just as quickly as it came. He goes stiff and his eye closes as he concentrates. An aura of calm washes over and around him. A small breeze lifts his hair and cools the sweat on his arms and chest. Only the sand around him is disturbed, a perfect circle where he stands is now visible in the ground. No beginning, and no end. When his eyelid finally opens, his pupil is a milky white. He grins a large toothy grin and takes a closer look at the at the silhouettes.

[sblock=Actions] If I can do a perception check as a minor then I'd like to take two minor actions (change move to minor) and a standard action for total defense. I'll roll for two checks and let scorpius decide which is more pertinent! 1d20+9;1d20+12 → [19,9] = (28) perception Roll Lookup 1d20+9;1d20+12 → [20,12] = (32) insight woot! [/sblock]

Dalvach peers out toward the oncoming enemies trying to see any detail he can. Three of the silhouettes seem similar to him, belonging to one on top and two from the south. These men wore light armor, likely hide or leather, and seemed lean but athletic. The swords were short swords, not long and they each had two. Professional gladiators more than likely, built for short intense combat.

The farthest shadow you could see less off, but you can make out a staff with an odd bend. Some kind of caster.

[sblock=ooc]Generally when we're not in a skill challenge Insight or Perception is a free action, but if you choose to use a minor action, as Dalvach did, I will be more lenient with the results and possibly pierce something that was not menat to be revealed yet.[/sblock]

Stepping back, hopefully behind Baern, Nyar shouts out, "Don't be the pawns of these deceivers! Stop this fighting nonsense now!"

Then more quietly to Baern and Dalvach, "I certainly didn't make any friends last time being aggresive. This time I'll try to be more obstructive."

A pillar of lightning forms in front of the southern portcullis, sending tendrils of lightning to the surrounding areas.

[sblock=actions] Move to F15. Storm pillar in square N23. This should block LOS. I guess I should clarify how that works. If they don't move, they won't take damage, but every square the people move through would cause 1d6+6 damage? Let me know if you read that different. They are probably moving through at least 2 squares leaving the entry area? Hopefully they don't come out! [/sblock]

**Thats about right**[/sblock]

The gladiator in the northern gate surges out, weaving his twin swords through the air. He charges straight at Dalvach, exchanging parries.

In the south, the crackling column of energy holds them back for a moment. One tries to slip by it, and takes two sharps bolts before coming at Baern, but he can barely see his target, so blinding was the light. The other takes a longer way around but still suffers a similar fate.

The caster stays back, daunted by the spell. None seem responsive to Nyar's offer.

[sblock=ooc]Gladiator 1 moves to I9.
Charges to H13, Dalvach. 21 vs AC, Miss

Gladiator 2 moves to I18, taking 17 lightning damage.
Charges to G16, attacking Baern. Miss

Gladiator 3 moves to L18, the long way, taking 12 lightning damage regardless.
Charges to H15 attacking Dalvach. 25 vs AC, hit, 7 damage

Caster moves to O25.

"The blood we've been spilling will bleed us dry, comrades. Let us finish this."

Dalvach parries as best he can with his Craghammer, the gladiators furious blows rain down and one makes it through his defenses. Dalvach draws on his reserves and projects an atmosphere of fury.

"How dare you strike the Son of the Mountain!? Die, wretch!"

When the gladiator attacks me or an ally adjacent during its next turn I make a secondary attack of Charisma vs. Will. If that hits he takes a negative to his attack roll equal to (3). 1d20+9 → [19,9] = (28) vs. Will Roll Lookup [/sblock]

The humans continue this time focusing on hard cuts instead of quick slashes. Dalvach bats one away, only to give the swift fighter an opportunity to inch close to Nyar.

Baern gets attack from two sides, with Dalvach's will keeping the confidence out of one. The other slides past his armor digging deeply and opening a bloody wound.

The Caster, meanwhile, has decided to wait no longer, and charges straight though the storm pillar, coming out the other side quite burned, with deep open wounds of his own. You see him now as a wicked looking hobgoblin in arcane robes. He points his staff at Baern, blasting him with a stream of force that tries to lash on and pull him away from his allies but it is not strong enough to move the stubborn dwarf.

[sblock=ooc]Gladiator 1 attacks Dalvach. 13 vs AC, Miss
Shifts to G13

Gladiator 2 attacks Baern. 22 vs AC, 8 damage and Baern takes 3 ongoing damage (save ends)
Shifts to F15

Gladiator 3 attacks Baern. Takes a -3 to attack roll. 14 vs AC, Miss

Baern, you can decide on your next turn whether you want to use unbalancing parry or not. Just because you've already seen 8 enemies without getting a rest.

The Caster moves 5 squares to K20, taking 23 lightning damage. Just enough to bloody him.
