OOC: ... Rolled a 20, with a 20 on the assist roll... The 20 assist roused suspicion in the bouncer, and that is why the 20 won't work. We aren't wearing the right clothes, we aren't playing characters correctly...

These are examples of the reasons I'm not having fun any longer. I've gone as far as changing character concept and taking undesirable feats, and even stopped talking OOC to make this work.

I'm ready for this to wrap up. If that isn't happening sometime soon, let me know, and I'll find a replacement to take the place of Veruza.

I understood that he was more interested in who has arrived with such strange behaviour and with Majesty as the titel then suspicious of some ulterior motives. At least by what KarinsDad described
Paraphrasing: No longer disinterested, but leaning forward with CURIOSITY not SUSPICION

I'm sorry that you are not having fun.

Veruza acted uncouth, not like a lady on the arm of a gentleman.

You treated the man like dirt, calling him a "door servant" (insult), admonishing him for talking to Nyar (extremely bizarre, even noblemen don't walk up to someone and then expect that person to not talk to them), acted angry, called the dwarven bodyguard "short stack" (not too bad, strange terminology and a bit odd behavior for a lady, but ladies are sometimes weird) and then expected the man to just roll over because you decided to roll a Diplomacy Assist that I didn't ask for and rolled a 20 on it.

That's Bluff, not Diplomacy.

In game actions have consequences. The guy might have just let you in if you would have just been nice to him instead of treating him like a worm.

There is a difference between roleplaying and rollplaying.

I'm old school. I roleplay first and if the NPCs are on the fence, then I ask for a skill check roll.

I don't roll the dice and expect that NPC to act as if they are non-existent non-thinking beings because the player rolled a 20 on an uncalled for dice roll.

I'm sorry if you do not understand that. I'm sorry that you expect the PCs to win just because you decide to roll the dice and rolled high. I'm sorry that you are not having fun with the roleplaying.

Dice rolling is used to smooth over minor issues with the intent of what the player said and what he wanted his PC to represent. But, they don't overcome actual conversational insults. From what I could tell, you wanted to insult this guy.

It's like all things. If you expect someone in real life to be nice, you have to be nice to them first. Why would you think insulting the man and treating him like a low servant (without knowing if he is the proud owner of the place, a well respected maitre de for 10 years, or just a normal employee) would be the way to smooth your way into this place?

Your clothes are fine. Your previous clothes were not. But nice clothes used to get into a gentleman's club doesn't mean noble clothes for a nobleman to slum at a gentleman's club. Go back and read the posts. Not one player indicated that you were trying to pretend to be noblemen.

Veruza's attitude? I understand that you are playing her as stuck up and haughty, but you (and Nyar by being addressed, but refusing to respond back to the man) went overboard as unusual and suspicious behavior. Suspicious doesn't mean hostile. It allowed the group to have an interaction with the man beyond it just being just a short conversation. And because that conversation is now a slight challenge to overcome instead of an automatic win, you are not having fun.

This is exactly what makes roleplaying fun. The fact that NPCs might not react the way you expect them to.

I'm not expecting you to roleplay in a certain way. But, I expect you to understand that if you insult an NPC, he's not going to appreciate it. 20 on multiple dice rolls, or 1 on multiple dice rolls.

You want to correct that, then do so via PC in character conversation. Baern did a great job of turning the conversation back around to a somewhat neutral situation from the slightly negative one that Veruza (and to a lesser extent Nyar) started it out as, but he didn't make it a positive situation. There is still ground to be made up if the team wants to get into this place

Baern rolled a 20 in Bluff, but is unskilled in that skill, so only got a 22. Your Diplomacy Aid Another didn't help him. And for all you know, this man might have been throwing low life people such as the PCs out for years. He might have an extremely high Insight.

You don't know. Why are you bothered by this? Because things didn't go the way you wanted them to??? Because two 20s were rolled on dice???

I don't understand your objection to the game going in a direction based on what is said, not what is rolled.

Veruza put the PCs in this unfavorable position and are now bothered that it didn't work out well? Huh? You expect good dice rolls to make up for an insult and strange behavior?

"Listen, good Sir. Let's not let dwell on titles. Let us just say that I am... no one of importance. A casual diner. My interest piqued by the stories I heard about the Sky Nest, and I simply wanted a... night out on the town... without hassle."

Nyar gives a small snap of his fingers, then puts his hand out, low and casual.

As Nyar hands the coins to the man, a very slight frown, almost unnoticable crosses his face. But, he takes the coins nonetheless.

"Of course sir. Would you like a private room, or would you like to dine in the public area?" he asks, his face now impassive.

You have your night with the common people, I'm leaving. Veruza removes herself from Nyar's arm, and begins making her way toward the docks. What little she had left would pay for passage to her homeland.

OOC: Thanks for taking the adventure over KD, I'm sorry I couldn't adapt to the game style you enjoy. Enjoyed the players, sorry to leave everyone without healing :( Apologies for the abrupt exit.

You know, KarinsDad, I never considered you like this. You would always stick to the rules (and I guess you still are). Restored my faith in you as mature gamer. In 4e there is a tendency (esp. in PbP where waiting for the roll can be few days) to roll first and describe the effect later.

Sorry to see you go, CaBaNa, but it is better that way if you don't enjoy the game. We'll manage.

[sblock=One story from waaay back]
A friend was making a speech in front of a large audience (in-game). In real life, we thought he will just roll performance or diplomacy (3E). No, he got up and really made a speech. Good one. We all felt it. Then promptly rolled 1 on his dice. with modifier +8 +4 from aids, and even +4 circumstance DM assigned from good speech didn't amount to DC 20 and DM overruled our protests of not making the crowd raise up against tiranny...(that was what we were trying to do :) )

We overuled him then. First and last time I saw the group literally ignore DM and
continue the game :)

OOC: I normally only roll when prompted :) This d20 system can put out some wacky results.

Baern looks embarrassed to have talked and follows Nyar to the private room.

"Certainly sir. Will you require just a table to dine, or a table with a sitting room for after dinner conversation?" the man asks. With Veruza's prompt departure, his eyebrow again rises. This might be the most interesting drama that he has seen in quite a while.
