Advanced Weapon Crafting

Finished a bit more stuff. I am almost done with the list of weapons and their crafting time / DC (just missing Exotic weapons now).

Crafting Rules

I also finished the following Materials

Alabaster, Imbued
Amber, Imbued
Emerald, Imbued
Jasper, Imbued
Quartz, Imbued
Zircon, Imbued

Materials

I still have a few more real-world gemstones that I want to finish up, but it requires quite a bit of work to come up with good abilities for them. I usually do some background research on them before I find some aspect of them that are suitable for building a good ability on, so its not a fast task getting them done.

I will try and have that request done by this weekend. However, I do have a question, some of the abilities if they stack seem like they may be overpowered. For example, If there is a weapon with imbued alabaster, gemstone settings, and elven craftsmenship, then it seems like there is a hugely powerful weapon, without that much of a cost. Anyway, I will attempt what you requested and will post them here.

Thanks alot Corvidae. I did think of making the Equipment bonus to ability scores not stack, which would make sense since both the Alabaster and Elven Craftsmanship have a description slightly similar (Alabaster is a bit more expensive to buy, but Craftsmanship takes a lot longer and requires a good smith).

I am working on some additional Materials and some Special Qualities that I will probably post in a day or two. Also going to do some more work on Fantastic Flaws.

Starwind, sword of the elves

This is but the first of the powerful weapons devised using clay_more's weapons crafting system.

Long ago, almost too long to remember, even for the memories of the elves, the sword did not hang in the hall of crafting, but rather on the belt of one of the greatest of the noble houses. Here is the story of Starrora Starwind in the common tongue.

The heads of the noble houses commisioned the greatest elven smith to ever live Ashra Earthsteel to create a sword for use against the enemies of the elves. Remember, this was at a time, when men were like the sons of gods, and their enemies equivalent to the most powerful dragons of our age. Ashra was no ordinary smith, but given powers by the very god of smithing, to create and forge items that would endure for ages. In this ashra took his greatest achievements, to create items that would be used as models for the rest of the elven race. Gates and thrones, crowns and chests, Ashra fashioned, and none could match his skill.

So it was to this smith that the heads of the elven houses commisioned a weapon, a weapon that would use the skills of the elves, and bring low the enemies of the elven people. For 50 years Ashra worked, laboring with blade after blade, discarding batch after batch of Cloudsilver as too weak. He studied for hours before each hammer blow, making each blow a work of art in itself. Ashra himself prayed to the gods of the elves and the god of smiths to imbue the alabaster that he worked into the frame with their protection and their power. And finally, it was finished, the blade that would be worthy of the greatest of elves.

So Ashra presented it to a noble woman, in fact, the one that Ashra was meant to marry. Inuee Brightstar was to carry starwind, the weapon of elfdom. Ashra gave it to her as a dowry, claiming, rightfully so, that she was the greatest warrior the elves knew, and so was the only worthy weilder of the sword. However, before the wedding of these two paragons of elfdom, Inuee was called to deliver an elven village from an attack by an ancient dragon. Inuee rushed forth to battle, confident in the power of her, and in the power of her new blade. However, things did not work as planned. Trading blows Inuee and the dragon were at a stand still, until the fateful moment, the dragon struck with all of its might, and the blade snapped. Inuee lay in a pool of blood, broken by the dragons blow. Ashra came upon her body, and believing that he had somehow forged a weakness into the blade fell upon the cracked sword, killing himself.

The other smiths took the blade reverently and hung it in the hall of crafting, as a sign to all smiths for all time what their work can do. It can bring life back to the elven people, or be the destruction of goodness.

Starwind-

Cloud silver
Elf epic craftsmanship
Gem socket
Imbued Alabaster
Bloodstone

The wielder of starwind gains a +2 to their dexterity score when wielding starwind

The wielder uses their dexterity score rather than their strength score for determining their attack bonus

Each successful strike deals +1d6 electricity damage

The wielder gains a +2 bonus to dexterity while wielding starwind (from the alabaster)

The wielder gains a +4 bonus to initiative while wielding starwind

When the wielder deals damage to a living opponent, the wielder heals 2 points of damage

The weapon also contains these flaws in its current form

Cracked- the weapon suffers a -4 to attack rolls and deals damage as a weapon two sizes smaller.

Intelligent- Ashra's spirit now possesses the blade fighting anyone who trys to wield it. The weapon has the scores Int 21, Wis 6, Cha 18. The blade is slightly insane due to the extreme circumstances that it became intelligent and the guilt involved. Ashra now believes that the blade is irreperably flawed, and is one of the least worthy of elven weapons, even to exist. He will only allow an elf to weild it if the elf promises to destroy the blade.

The blade originally cost

15 gp for a longsword
300 gp for adding masterwork
36,000 for the imbued alabaster
25,000 for the bloodstone
10,000 for the cloudsilver

for a total of 71,315 gp

and has the current delays to crafting time

+400% for elf epic craftsmanship
+100% for cloudsilver
+100% for gemsockets

for a total of +600% crafting time

The DC is
14 for a longsword
+8 for elf epic craftsmanship
+3 for gemsockets
+4 for cloudsilver

for a total of 29

A smith with the same skills against the same DC as the original would be needed to repair the crack and it would take half of the original crafting time.

It would take 18 days of work and beating a DC of 29

In addition to this, one would have to convince the spirit of Ashra that the sword is not worthless and deserves to be restored. They would also have to come up with 1 lb of cloudsilver.

Adventure hooks-

An elf noble wants to take starwind from the hall of crafting and house it in his personal collection. Doing so however, would mean stealing from the elven hall of crafting, so he must find someway, or someone to do the deed for him.

One of the aspiring young smiths in the hall of crafting noticed something while studying starwind. The young smith noticed a small black mark, near the crack, somehow, the blade had been sabotaged, and the cracking had nothing to do with Ashra's handiwork. However, none of the other elf smiths believe him

An elf noble family discovers that one of their ancestors left record in his diary of sabotaging the elf blade in order to be rid of Inuee, his greatest rival. The family is now divided over whether they should come clean with their ancestors actions, or destroy the blade and be rid of the stain on their honor.

Although Ashra and Inuee did not get married, their families blood was mixed in a wedding at a much later date. Now the final descendent of that line has learned of Starwind, and wishes to wield the blade and fulfill his family's destiny. But to do so, the blade must be repaired.

Hope you enjoy

John

Hey Corvidae!

I just finished brushing up your weapon and I added it to the Craftsmanship site.

Sample Weapons

I really like it, very elven in story and properties. I altered it very slightly (I didn't alter the background story, materials or modifications). I don't use Masterwork property, I use a list of qualities (can be found in the main crafting rules). Based on the description you gave of the weapon, I gave it a quality of Excellent. I also brushed up the crafting of the weapon, so you can see exactly what the crafting time / DC is (which was increased a bit since I made the weapon quality Excellent). The crafting time ended up on a whopping 1623 days though (which shouldn't be inappropriate for a really well-made elven weapon).

Once again, thanks alot for doing the weapon, and good background for it. I hope you are satisfied how I edited it for the crafting site.

ok, so I was way off on the crafting time.

Oh well, it looks great by the way,
Although I am not sure how I got the price that far off.

Still looks great.

John

P.s. I should have more coming today or tommorow

Well, the price mentioned for Cloudsilver under materials is for 1 lb., and a longsword weighs 4 lb. Another thing to keep in mind is that I kinda abolished the Masterwork property, and instead use a scaling quality level, should be located under the crafting rules.

Looking tremendously forward to what you come up with.

Grilcar, The hammer of Grishnag

I could not believe what I was seeing. Out of the horde of orcs stepped an ogre, more powerful than any I had ever seen. He was head and shoulders above the orcs, and when he drew his warhammer, black flames engulfed it. It seemed that the ogre did not have any regard for the orcs that seemed to be his allies, striking down anyone with impunit. I watched as the paladins of Cuthbert charged this ogre, for he threatened to break our lines.

I almost lost faith when I saw Sir Farlos fall to the hammer. The ogre had struck a blow that few could believe. Sir Farlos helmet was smashed completely, and his blood stained the ground. Almost not believing my own eyes, the ogre simply licked his own hammer, ignoring the black flames that surely seered his tongue, it looked directly at me, smiled and then turned his attention to the other paladins. Four fell before the ogre was finally killed by a lance blow. The paladins, although sworn to uphold their duty and honor, stabbed the ogre repeatedly while he was on the ground.

After the battle, I was given the duty of discovering the secrets of the warhammer. I could do nothing but study this weapon of amazing evil, doing my best to avoid the taint that the warhammer undoubtedly contained. It took months to realize the full effect of the evil, and stay untainted in the process.

-Excerpt from the journals of Brother Arinor, magic expert of the monastary of St. Cuthbert in Deepshore

Grishnag the ogre carried a heavy warhammer, sized for an ogre. The warhammer burnt with black flame, and was used to deal with both enemies and allies. Grishnag had become possessed by a demon in exchange for his warhammer, and spread chaos and destruction where he went. He only died by a lucky blow from a paladin of St. Cuthbert in the battle of the red field.

Grilcar-

Warhammer, Large sized,

The abilities are as follows
1d10 damage (large size)

Each time the wielder strikes for damage he or she heals 2 points of damage

Deals 1d6 points of fire damage, or 2d6 if enemy is of good alignment, considered evil for purposes of damage reduction

Deals 1d6 points of damage when it strikes an enemy of either good or evil alignment

Materials

Infernal Iron, Flarecore
Onyx
Bloodstone

Weapon modifications

Gem Socket-2

The crafting time (according to my calculations)

5 days for warhammer
x 2 for being good quality
+100% for gem socket
+50% for flarecore iron

+30 days for crafting time

The crafting DC (according to my calculations)
12 for warhammer
+6 for good quality
+3 for flarecore Iron
+3 for gem socket

= DC 24 for crafting the warhammer

The cost of this warhammer

12 gp for a warhammer
25,000 gp for bloodstone
6,000 gp for infernal iron flarecore x 8lbs (5 for warhammer, 1 for gemsocket, 2 for large size)
4,000 gp for imbued onyx

for a total of 57,012 gp

I hope I got everything right this time

John

I had forgotten to post adventure hooks for Grilcar, the ogre's hammer.

- The Church of St. Cuthbert has commisioned the party to destroy grilcar, but they have no idea how it would be possible without tainting the land for miles in each direction.

-Grilcars demon has returned, attempting to possess people (perhaps even the player's) and recapture grilcar

-The hammer has tainted its bearers, slowly changing the monks and clerics of the monastary into its own evil army. If the players cannot find a way to reverse the process, the hammer may gain complete control over the monastary and make a powerful force of evil.

-Grilcar has caught fire mysteriously and has burnt the monastary to the ground, burning it with an evil black flame. Recently undead have been sighted in the ruins of the monastary, and the black flames have been sighted repeatedly. There are even tales of wights who burn with a mysterious black flame, and spread evil with their touch

hope you like it,
John

Thanks a bundle Corvidae. Ill get cracking on getting it formatted for the wiki. Pricing is correct this time as far as I can see. The weapon looks good by the way, you do indeed do good fluff as you mentioned. Quite fond of the Bloodstone, are we? :D
