Wat decides that even dazed, Basal is still a dangerous foe. He concentrates on Sabynha's song taking the encouragement of the bard. Keeping a safe distance from the giant, Wat raises his staff and a blast of light erupts from it. Sabynha is unharmed by the blast as it washes over her, but so distracted by her graceful movements was he that his aim was off. So too is Basal unharmed.

Rain sizes up Basal and then throws her Farbond Spellbade through the air. This time, it is timed to hit her victim across the head with the hilt before returning in a flying arc to her hand.

Thinking about her companions, Rain then moves close enough to Basal to lay her Aegis of Shielding upon him. She stands ready with her blade in hand to try and counter his next move.

[sblock=Rain's actions]Standard Action:
Ranged Basic Attack Farbond Spellblade (Longsword) +1 : +9 vs AC, D8+5 damage, Range 5/10, at long range, with combat advantage because of the Daze - Total to Hit =

.

Move Action: Rain moves to I7.

Minor Action: Rain marks Basal with her Aegis of Shielding -

Aegis of Shielding (Minor Close burst 2 ✦ Arcane)
Target: One creature in burst
Effect: You mark the target. The target remains marked until you use this power against another target. If you mark other creatures using other powers, the target is still marked. A creature can be subject to only one mark at a time. A new mark supersedes a mark that was already in place. If your marked target makes an attack that does not include you as a target, it takes a -2 penalty to attack rolls. If that attack hits and the marked target is within 10 squares of you, you can use an Immediate Interrupt to reduce the damage dealt by that attack to any one creature by 8 points of damage.

Potential Interrupts, but with intent to subdue if damage is caused:

Zuri simply moves forwards to melee the would-be assassin. Using the opening granted to her by Sabynha, she strikes Basal lightly, though spiritedly, driving her dagger pommel down onto Basal's kneecap.

Perhaps her companions will be able to take advantage of Zuri's distraction too.

Not content to stop there, she tries to hit Basal in the other kneecap, but he is more than ready for another attempt and pulls his leg out of the way.

"Blast it all."

[sblock=Zuri's actions]Move Action: Zuri moves to H9.

Standard Action: Guarded Attack against Basal, with combat advantage because of the Daze - Total to Hit = 28, with intent to subdue Damage is 8. (Would actually be 30.)

Guarded Attack: Melee: +9 vs AC; 2d4+5 dmg and if target attacks before eont make a MBA against it as Imm. Interrupt and the target takes a -2 penalty to triggering attack roll

Minor Action:

The adventurers hit the verbeeg hard, and though they obviosuly hurt him, drawing blood from several wounds, he merely grimaces and responds with a flurry of spinning strikes with his spear, each of them aimed at Sabynha who stands between him and Rain, whose arcane mark obviously annoys the giant to no end. The skald manages to fend off several of the strikes, but a flurry catches her, the first behind the leg, dropping her to one knee, the second on the shoulder sending a numbing pain all down her arm, the third in the side of the head, sending her to the ground unconscious. The way now clear he sends a final stab towards the tiefling.

Watching Sabynha fall causes the rage to bubble to the surface. He does his best to swallow that rage for the sake of Sabyna and the others. Wat decides the best course of action is to clear the way. He retrieves the potion given to him by Peg and pulls off the stopper before drinking it down.

His focus sharpens everything in the room appears brighter for a moment.

Calling down Joven's thunder, he strikes the giant true, the blast hitting it square in the chest and throwing it back.

Rain's magical shielding ward alleviated some of the damage against Sabynha, but the horrendous speed and power of the flurry rolled back and overpowered the extra defence that Rain had lent her.

OOC: Rain's Aegis of Shielding would have also lowered the damage from Basal by 8, but it counts as an Immediate Interrupt; only get one of those per turn, so Sabynha will be on -4.

If that attack hits and the marked target is within 10 squares of you, you can use an Immediate Interrupt to reduce the damage dealt by that attack to any one creature by 8 points of damage.

I'll do Zuri last. If anyone hits Basal in the meantime, now Wat has dazed him again, don't forget this gift from Zuri:

Sneak in the attack: (minor; melee 1) Until start of Zuri's next turn the next ally who hits the target with CAdv deals 2d8+2 extra dmg

Sir Flibbertigibbet flits back around the table, Daphne the wolf still padding after him wearing the same infuriatingly blank look. Ignoring her, he winds up for another charge and smashes into Basal in a shower of ice. He follows through and hits the giant again, striking him mightily on the head with the flat of his sword.

[sblock=actions and rolls]Sir F is of course trying to make his attacks non-lethal, however you do that while stabbing people with an icy sword ;)

Move: Daphne to B7, Sir F to C5.

Minor: Vanguard weapon daily as part of charge.

Standard: charge to B8. Sir F will take Zuri’s Sneak in the Attack bonus if he hits. icy skewer vs AC (+2 CA, +1 charge), Basal; damage (+1d8 charge, +2d8+2 sneak in the attack)
7(1d20) +9 +2 +1 = 19; 6(1d10) +9 +8(1d8) +5(2d8) +2 = 30
hits Basal for 30 cold damage and Sir F gets a +2 power bonus to defenses against Basal’s attacks until EoNT.

Vanguard daily: all allies get a +1 bonus to attack rolls and a +4 bonus to damage rolls until the start of my next turn.

AP: piercing shard vs Will (+2 CA), Basal; damage
20(1d20) +9 +2 = 31; 12(2d10) +9 = 21
crits for an additional crit die, piercing shard
3(1d8) = 3
. Total 32 cold and psychic damage and Sir F is invisible to Basal until EoNT.

Summary of effects for the entire routine: 62 damage to Basal, Sir F has +2 defenses and is invisible to Basal until EoNT, rest of group has +1 to attacks and +4 to damage rolls until start of Sir F’s next turn. Sneak in the Attack bonus used.[/sblock]

Rain, saddened and worried that Sabynha had fallen, made the decision to attack at range again. Her aim was still true, with Basal being struck once more in the head by the hilt of the flying longsword.

She then moved away. The power of Basal's strikes against the group not withstanding, perhaps her Aegis might still be better used warding the others for now.

[sblock=Rain's actions]Rain can't heal too well, unfortunately.

Standard Action: Ranged Basic Attack Farbond Spellblade (Longsword) +1 : +9 vs AC, D8+5 damage, Range 5/10, at long range, with combat advantage because of the Daze - Total to Hit = 23, Damage is 13, striking to cause subdual damage.

Sir F's Vanguard daily: all allies get a +1 bonus to attack rolls and a +4 bonus to damage rolls until the start of my next turn.

So, 24 to hit and Damage = 17.

Move Action: Rain moves to L7. She'll always have Basal in the range of her Aegis of Shielding on the map from there.

Zuri dropped her dagger and pulled, cocked and loaded her Hand-crossbow. Taking aim at an expensive looking fluted vase on top of the bookcase, she fired the bolt; it shattered the stem, and the remnants fell fairly squarely on the giant fey.
