(Adventure) A hunting trip

Remi pulls himself free of the trap and helps Telerin get loose then turns to Katherine;
"It appears that we've underestimated the beast yet again. I never expected it to be smart enough to set traps."

Then, addressing everyone;
"How do you all think we should proceed? The ormfene went up, but that may not be the only trap on the wall."

"I don't think you understood me," katherine says sadly, turning away from aranel. "I am not proceeding. I am retreating. I am at the end of my strength and only not dead by luck. And we haven't even met this thing. I won't have you wasting a healing draught on me so that I can continue along as dead weight." She glances at Aranel and gives a wry grin. "I've told many wonderful stories about heroes dying for a noble cause, but they generally sound better when they actually contribute to that cause rather than dying as a side note. I can contribute to this venture one short lived light and an extra pair of feet to make noise and warn the enemy. I came along to learn, and this is no longer a teaching trip."

Having landed gracefully as she could manage, avoided the trap and then stumbled over apologising proffusly for not having seen it sooner she heard Katherines words. "Surely not, not only the light of your arrow would you take from us, but also the light in our heartsyour company grants us...I am a hundred times sorry for not spying the trap sooner..." She added with a slight humble bow. "But I intend to stay...there will be more traps...and now this creature has struck at me this way it will pay for every trap I find, double for any I cannot disarm." She sighed.
"But if you intend to leave us, then above all please let us escort you back to the forest edge. It would be a cruel fate should the creature attack you as you left..." This time her sigh was sadder and she rested a hand on the half-humans arm. "I will be sorry to see you leave...perhaps...when I make it back to the tavern we may meet again and head out on more..." There was a faint grin. "Profitable ventures."

"I would be sad to see you go, Katherine," Telerin said after Aranel finished speaking. Whitefang was watching the Half-Elf as Telerin continued speaking, "I agree that if you wish to leave, we should escort you back...but if we do that, we will lose even more ground."

OoC:I'm not sure if K-B's statement is for roleplay, which is great, btw, or saying that she wants to back out of the end of this one, but...

Standing and brushing the leaves and dirt from yourselves, you all make it safely from under the Trap.
Suddenly, Whitefang snaps his head upwards, snarling as a small pebbele falls from above to hit Remi on the shoulder.
Remi and Aranel both see a massive form standing at the top of the little cliff, something large held overhead in it's hands, as if to throw it down upon you all...

<would you believe 2 '20' results for Orientation/Suprise...pesky PCs>

<Remi and Aranel both have an action before 'Initiatives'>

"No" katherine says firmly. "This is an important task, if one outside of my talents. I won't take up any of its resources, not a healing potion that could keep one of you up long enough to kill the beast before it kills again, not your time while the trail goes cold."

As the others begin to look up, Katherine thinks "In a story it would have waited till I was done talking..."

"Aye, but in a story they always have some small amount of intelligence." Aranel growled whipping out her handheld crossbow and aiming it up at the figure before firing. "It looks like it's going to be throwing stones!" She warned looking around for a suitable way to get behind it. Even as she did so she was moving to the left the creature.

Aranel pops off her bolt at the thing, hitting it somewhere in the mass if rags it wears <4HP>. It bellows loudly.

Katherine can make out the creature muttering in Giant 'Delicious...elf and man and...something between...'

<Waiting for Remi's action. K-B, is that a 'backing out' or a 'continuing though fearful of failure' sort of IC answer...>
