Adventure: A Tale of Two Domains (DM:Luinnar, Judge:renau1g)

GM: Looks like themes is going to pass. Provided they do you can add one to your PC at the end of the string of challenges (you'll know when you get there). You don't have too if you want to wait. There are some fun ones in Neverwinter in addition to the current ones, but the Neverwinter ones won't be approved until next month)

As you enter the next area you can faintly see that you are standing on a narrow rock ledge that stands to one side of a wide chamber. Beneath the ledge is a chasm filled with swirling mists. They seem to shift and ripple like boiling water in a cauldron. A bitter, almost acidic scent drifts up from the mists, but nothing can be seen through the pale blue waves of fog. The mists glow eerily in the unnatural darkness, that even Brenn's keen eyesight, Sir ExSixTen's light, or Andras's darkvision has trouble penetrating.

You can barley make out a huge bone that forms a bridge off of this ledge and above the misty chasm. The bone is yellow with age, although a fine layer of moisture, no doubt a by product of the mist, clings to them like teardrops. While it is obvious that these bones once belonged to a humanoid, their owner must have been enormous.

GM: Everyone please make an acrobatic check to safely cross the bridge. Or you can try to find an alternative means to cross or to safely get across.

"Looks like a heck of a drop," Brenn muttered as he looked down into the chasm. "And I don't like the look of that span- doesn't seem too safe. Let me get across and we'll see if we can rig a line or something..."

He scrambled across the slippery bridge with little trouble, and once he reached the far side he unslung his back and began to remove ropes and climbing gear.

>Is there a way for Brenn to use his climbing kit and ropes to construct either a 'secondary' bridge or belay arrangement- either to aid people with Acrobatics checks or to allow use of Athletics (climbing) instead of Acrobatics?

Brenn ties a rope to one side of the bone bridge and safely makes it across, tieing the rope to the other end. This rope can be held on to by those who are less nimble to get across safely.

GM: You can now make an athletics check instead of an acrobatics check to get across safely :)

Quagmire smiles shakily in relief when he sees Brenn securing a rope to hold onto. "Never did have much balance without a rope t'hold on to," he confesses. He holds onto the rope firmly with both hands as he crosses carefully.

OOC: Athletics 26, and I'm glad to not have to make acrobatics. :)

Sir Exsixten stares down at the green fog, swaying slightly for several moments.

THIS WAY, CITIZENS! he says, as though most of the group isn't already past. When he reaches the bridge, he slows down, then, peering at the acidic froth below, drops to his knees.

BRAVELY, SIR EXSIXTEN CROSSES THE GAPING CHASM OF DOOM. BEING AFRAID OF NOTHING, HE DOESN'T FEAR FALLING INTO THE ACIDIC PIT WHERE HIS CONSTITUENT COMPONENTS DISSOLVE INTO RUSTY SLAG, HIS DEATH UNWEAPT AND UNMOURNED, NOT EVEN A SHARD OF METAL TO REMEMBER HIM BY. NO! HE FEARS THIS NOT AT ALL, HENCE HIS HEROIC AND IMPRESSIVE CROSSING OF THE BRIDGE.

Which is what he tells himself as he craws on his hands and knees, every once in a while starting to tip, flailing his arms, and clutching at the rope desperately for several seconds.

When he finally finishes, he leaps to his feet, readies his weapons and marches quickly onward, as if trying to forget what just happened.

CITIZENS, LOOK, METAMORPHIC ROCK, THIS IS REALLY GNEISS!

He quickly succeeds.

[sblock=Athletics 24]Athletics 1d20+11=24.[/sblock]

OOC: Thanks for the rope; if that had been acrobatics, Sir Exsixten would be drowning in acid right now.

GM: Jax please make a DC 20 Athletics check and Andras a DC 20 Acrobatics check to catch yourself on the edge of the bridge. (you both use the other skill as your second chance).
