Gurian looks over at D'Artagnan and says, loud enough to be heard on the dock, "I think that we should try to get them to help us. We know Patch, Muscles, and Shorty are up to no good. We know they were willing to murder a man to find what we're looking for and try to pin it on us. Apparently unsuccessfully since they returned Kristoff's sword. And, most importantly, we know we can't beat the three of them by ourselves. Whatever they're looking for is probably valuable. To be honest, I'm pissed off enough at them to get whatever they're looking for, just to keep it out of their hands."

Atella smiles a crooked smile. "Sounds like the two of you could use some help, eh?" Turning to his companions, "We may or may not be the ones to help, but we might as well listen, no? Who knows, this might turn out to be the sort of opportunity we've been looking for."

Assuming the others agree...

Turning back towards the strangers on the boat, Atella says "Alright, we'll come aboard and listen to what you have to say, on the condition that you put your guisarme on the ground and step back. Otherwise, we're coming on board with weapons in hand. Fair enough?"

OOC: Understand, and I'm at least trying to squeeze a more convincing IC reason out of this...

OOC: I feel you. I know it is hard to get PCs togather. Perhaps if the priest had visited us in person instead of sending a messenger. Or maby Joe had taken us aside and explained the situation things would be different. It is what it is.

Zhangsun too boards the ship. Jo's words of warning loomed in his mind. Perhaps he WAS being too trusting. Growing up in a small town where everyone knew everyone else there was very little crime. Mostly just pranks and such. The only sherrif in town spent most of his time rounding up stray goats. Zhang would have to get used to life in a big city like this. As he stepps onto the deck he looks around and thinks, "Well, its too late to be suspicious now."

OOC: Perhaps, but this is far more entertaining. :p Besides, I can't do everything for you guys... ;) It's your choice. Roleplay. You guys are good at it.

This somewhat mollifies the little voice in the back of Zhangsun's mind, which had been debating over the hypocrasy of suspecting the fellows he met only seconds ago here at the docks, but at the same time trusting the fellows he met only minutes ago up at the Inn... Even considering the difference in circumstances, he knows very little about any of them.

D'Artagnon looks a little flustered at the new 'recruits', and senses mutual uneasiness.
"Alright, how's this, one of ye's come with Gurian and I below- we're just looking for...for something, we're not sure, and then we will catch up the story with ye's aftawards...the other two keep a watch out for any...suspicious folk...besides us, that is..."
He looks to Gurian for a nod.

D'Artagnon's comment makes Atella even more suspicious then before. "You mean you want one of us to go alone, below decks with you to help you search for something?" He arches his eybrow skeptically. "I have a good eye for finding things, but I see few reasons to trust you, and many reasons not to. I don't mean to offend you, I'm just stating the facts as I see 'em. You seem to have an interesting story, but not so interesting that I'm willing to go alone below decks with you to find out what it is."

Quickly looking about, he continues. "If you asked for my advice, and I know you haven't, I'd say that an empty dock and empty ship's deck is less suspicious than a dock with lookouts on it. Of course, that would mean either we all go down below decks or you two go down and the three of us bid you good evening."

Turning to Jo and Zhangsun, Atella says "Well, lads, we delivered the message. Shall we head back to the tavern now?"

Jo Guilan nods in agreement at Atella, but silently. Two of the them had expressed a willingness only to hear the details, had explicitly said they weren't committing to helping out, just considering it, and this human was already trying to use them. He was trying to be open-minded, but this whole job wasn't Jo's or Haisi's plan style, and he didn't like being pressed into it.

He beckons to Haisi, who flies over to perch on Jo's hand, but still doesn't seem to be in a hurry to go.

(OOC: I don't mind leaving if it seems the IC thing to do. I'll get other chances to play this character in adventures, but neither Jo nor I am in a big hurry to land one. I'm giving an IC-credible hook a chance to show up, but I'm not going to force a justification for him signing up if it seems to far-fetched.)

Zhang proposes a compromise, "How about this? Myself and D'Artagnon will go below and investigate. Gurian, Atella, Jo, and Haisi stay here. It shouldn't take more then a few minutes to find...what was it we are looking for?"

"We're not precisely sure. The man who was talking about it said something that seemed to be bilge pump. Then he died. He also said to be careful of the lee side. I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with the ship, as the lee would change with the wind."

OOC: Relax. Trust me. Play Jo as you see fit. As you said, don't force him to do anything he wouldn't normally. I've got tricks to help things along, if need be, but I'd rather not use them unless I have to. Let's see how things work out, eh? Trust me.
