Tandi sees that these orcs are going to make mincemeat out of the other adventurers if something isn't done. The problem was, she wasn't prepared to go toe-to-toe with an orc. Let alone a group of them. She made a quick decision and moved.

If Protective Render is down:
Tandi grabbed the girl, picking her up into her arms and ran towards safety away from the converging orcs. "Don't worry, little one, we'll take care of Doggie when we finish with these meanies." Looking towards the group, she prepared herself for combat.

If Protective Render is still fighting:
Tandi continues guarding the little girl within the protective reach of the huge gray beast that seems to consider the girl its ward.

I can't seem to tell if the render is disabled or dying from the description.

As Rillian watches the orcs strike many of his companions with terrible blows, his skin begins to take on a reddish hue, and the veins on his forehead begin to throb. Finally, as Cade slumps and drops his lance, Rillian lets out a beastial scream of rage, and begins to attack the orc in front of him with a furious rain of sword strokes.

ooc: For those who are unaware, Rillian "probably" had barbarian parents, and in 5xp he will have a lvl of barbarian (and Rage Baby!).

(OOC: Protective Render is down)

(OOC#2: I forgot A'jardin's readied action last round--oops! The Ray of Frost missed by 1 on a roll of 6. Anyways, that puts A'jardin right before the orcs this round too)

*Most of the orcs, perhaps all, fail to understand Anton, but one of them laughs and spits.*

*Tandi dashes to the side 120 feet, into the bushes, putting enough distance between the spot where she would leave the girl and the orcs that even a charging orc would take two or three rounds to reach it, and it should have cover from ranged attack. As she does so, she bumps into a hobgoblin woman, probably the only female of the earlier group. Though she has a weapon drawn, she does not attack, but she does cry out angrily in goblin:*

[SBLOCK]
"You monster! You helped that awful halfling and his giant barbarian kill my brother and now you run away? I wish you would go back and die with the rest of them."
[/SBLOCK]

*Meanwhile, Somac charges the uninjured orc that had hurt Scun from a flanking position, sacrificing accuracy for power because he's pretty sure he can hit the thing anyway. This plan pays dividends when Somac slices right through the orc's chainmail and into its side, splilling some entrails as the horrified creature collapses in a swoon.*

*Dagummit has finally reached the fight, and now he's mad! So he vents his anger with a powerful waraxe attack--slicing across the orc's neck, though sadly for the dwarf not clean through. Still, there is a gout of blood, reminding the dwarf proudly of his many orc-killing songs from the inn.*

*Alton makes a careful retreat, double-moving off to the side 80 feet to keep himself safe from the orcs' axes but still out of charging range--hopefully.*

*Rillian slams wildly at his orc with the greatsword, but unfortunately the attack is deflected by the orc's chainmail.*

*Anton nocks another arrow and fires at the orc that had been hurt previously by Scun--this time striking true, even though the orc is in melee with his allies, thanks to Anton's careful training for just such a situation. The orc gasps in pain, barely still standing after the arrow and the spear attack.*

(OOC:
Ouch! Somac hits for 28 damage.

I'll just let Dagummit use his roll for 11 damage, but I usually do 'em Animus, as I once met someone who just rolled 40 times under different names and then pointed me to the last one ;)

Rillian misses, but don't worry--I somehow think you might get 5 xp for this though ;)

Anton hits for 6 damage!

Scun's turn now, followed immediately by A'jardin)

OOC:[sblock]Snip questions about ray of frost last round, you posted while I was typing. Either way...Acid Splash, same as ray of frost, but acid instead of cold (touch attack at +1, 1d3 damage, no save). Targeted at the orc who has been hit by the spear and the arrow already, hopefully I can take it out of the battle before it can act again. Only about a 50/50 chance of hitting with these cantrips, but I'm pretty sure that's way better than my chances with the crossbow.[/sblock]

Shifting to keep the bulk of the fighters between himself and the orcs, but trying for a unimpeded shot at the most wounded orc, A'jardin conjures what looks like a small ball of water and throws it at the nearest orc. When the ball hits though, it smokes and sizzles.

(OOC: Even worse, I rolled it with the seven other attacks that went at basically the same time and then just plain forgot to type it, partially because it was a miss and partially because it just slipped my mind at the time. Oops, sorry! Mea culpa :()

Scun backs away from the orc that he is facing, cautiously. He rasps,"Thank you Somac!" and drops his spear, grabbing his new wand from his belt and using it to cure himself.

ooc: 5' step away from orc (stay near Somac if possible), use wand of CLW (1d8+1)

*Backing away and slightly towards Somac in order to avoid the orc's axe, Scun's careful manoevring pays off as he manages to find a safe spot to use his new wand, which knits and mends his flesh, taking almost half the pain away as the wound transforms from a deep gash through his abdomen to a shallow gash surrounded by a dark, angry bruise.*

*Meanwhile, A'jardin's second cantrip proves more effective than the first, as the caustic glob of acid burns and sizzles into the face of the orc that Scun had so conveniently uncovered from Somac's side by moving away. Screaming at the pain and clutching at his ruined face, the orc collapses to ground.*

*Though the group has managed to defeat both of the orcs attacking their cleric, Scun, all of the others are still around, and the two who dealt with Cade now charge to the only new targets in range, one rushing at Anton as the other heads to flank Rillian. It seems likely that they would have gone after Tandi and the child had the monk not been careful to remove them from danger previously.*

*The orc attacking Dagummit howls in anger at the wound he took from the dwarf, and swings his greataxe in a wide arc killing blow, but the dwarf, seeing the attack coming, places his sturdy wooden shield before him, deflecting the attack and saving his life.*

*Rillian is all too familiar with the danger of a flanking position, and he tries valiantly to avoid the attacks, but feels a sickening dual thunk as his consciousness fades to blackness. The others see two axes slash into his body as one, ripping through the flesh horribly, and they can't tell for sure whether the brave warrior is alive or dead. All they know is that they will no longer be able to count on the utter control of the front-left side of the battle that Rillian had afforded them.*

*Anton nearly manages to dodge out of the axe's path, but the extra momentum from the orc's charge confuses the quick-footed archer, and he collapses to the ground as he is struck across the chest, dripping pools of blood.*

*A'jardin notices that with both Cade and Anton gone, he is exposed to a charge from the orc that eliminated Anton on one side of Dagummit and the orc that attacked Dagummit on the other side. Fortunately, Somac and Scun are off to his left, and perhaps they will remedy this situation before the wizard has to do so himself.*

(OOC:
Scun recovers 6 of his missing hit points.

A'jardin hits for 3 damage, knocking out the orc (which had already taken an impaling from Scun and an arrow from Anton) and soooooo close to critting (rolled 19)

When I say "saving his life" for Dagummit, what I mean is that he would have been dead if the attack hit. Grrrr, I hate the "die at -10 rules" and if I had my way, I would let you all live to negative your Con scores...but I don't.

Rillian gets knocked down to -9 by the attacks and is almost-certainly dead next round. Yikes, 10 Con is scary for a Fighter Rogue (especially with level 1 in Rogue)--let's hope you survive to get that much-needed barbarian level :)

Anton takes 11 damage, bringing him to unconsciousness as well

Tandi's turn now, followed by Somac)

Tandi, never having learned the Goblin tongue, could only understand one thing from the hobgoblin standing before her. "I'm angry and you're going to pay for it." However, Tandi also had a child to protect, so she couldn't simply engage this female in combat. Using a hand to guide the young girl behind her, Tandi opened her other hand in a disarming gesture. Hoping for the best, she tries the trade language of Common. "Look, we mean you no harm. We were only trying to protect the girl."

Tandi knew full well that she hadn't stayed home long enough to learn the fine art of diplomacy, but it was worth a try. Just in case though, she quickly ran through her techniques in her mind of how to disarm this goblinoid woman, should she attempt to attack.

Total Defense Action or Fight Defensively, whichever I can do while attempting a feeble Diplomacy check....

(OOC: Diplomacy is a full-round action at least (and even then you take a -10) and the hobgoblin doesn't understand Common. I'll let Tandi try a different action if you'd like ;))
