"In that case, let's get moving now for the bandit camp! I could probably stand to crack a few more skulls before the day is over."

After helping Oleg and his wife clean up the mess, Ruarc rejoins the group just in time to hear Ezmerelda's observations.

"And what will we do with this one in the meantime? What will be the punishment for his crime? For regardless of his reasons, he and his cronies have been taking from those who've worked hard for what they've earned and killing those who've offered them no harm. He will be punished for this, according to the law.

In regards to our next move, I'm with Mari. If we don't move - and quickly - to take the bandit camp Oleg's gonna take the brunt of their wrath for resisting their bullying."

"I agree! Can I punish him? Dunno about the 'according to the law' part, but I can definitely dole out some punishment!" :D

Ok seems everyone's set on moving to the camp (or at least the majority is). You have options with the bandit, you can:

1) Execute him - you're justified as per your Charter
2) Keep him as a prisoner - Scorpius can watch him so you don't have to worry about escape
3) Let him go - Note that if you do this Oleg will try and talk you out of it, at least if he knows about it.
4) Something else? [/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]Likely you've guess this already, but Ruarc won't let him go. If the rest of the group decides to do so he'll hunt the man down. He'd prefer to kill him now, but at the very least he'll insist the man be turned over to the authorities.[/sblock]

"What do You think, Ruarc? Are you going to intervene and insist that we spare this worthless scum? I'm not sure you look like one with the stomach for this kind of a killing, but I'd sure like to give you some hands-on instruction in the finer arts of it." ;)

"He should be put to death or held here until he can be turned over to the authorities. Probably more merciful to put him to death here, and cleanly; plus there's no chance of him escaping and returning to his marauding that way."

[sblock=OOC]As we know that banditry is a big part of the AP (at least of this first installment), and as it looks like this could become a bone of contention for the party, I think I need to explain Ruarc's position so we can keep the RP separate from RL.

Ruarc doesn't really hate the bandits anymore; he's made his peace with what happened to his family. But he does recognize their menace, and his personal mission is to eradicate banditry from the River Kingdoms and the Stolen Lands. He doesn't torture them, and he's not interested in revenge.

And it's not a question of the law, he was hunting them down and killing them before we got this charter. Regardless of the law, if they were targeting the nobility with their banditry he might (eventually) be persuaded by Happ's plight, but they're not. They're targeting common folk, who are presumably suffering under the same repression they are. So they need to be eradicated.[/sblock]

"The work of my maul will be anything but 'clean.' So perhaps you'd better execute him yourself. I'll gladly still do it, if need be, but I'd suggest that you at least stand back outside the 'splatter radius' when I dispatch the cur."

Mari

"We could kill him, just get it over with, but that seems to me to be just tossing a useful tool overboard. He may still have useful information, he could also be useful as a hostage for trade should one of us get captured. Think about it and I will support the will of the group, but killing a man is a thing that cannot be easily undone once done."

The half-elf seats himself again next to the prisoner
You tell us that you are threatening folk like the trading post here because the nobles are exploiting you. That does not make sense. If you told us the wrong direction to your camp, then Kressle could come an rescue you. I do not feel safe believing you. Why should we believe that it is safe for the good people of this region to let you live?
He rubs his smooth chin and turns to the group.
I have a proposal: According to our captive, the bandits and camped 13 hours away. I saw that we leave the captive here with Scorpius. If we do not return in two days, Scorpius who is staying here will kill the captive. If there is an attack by bandits here. Scorpius will kill the captive. We take the captive's pendant, so that if Kressle finds the captive she will kill him. Thus his only chance, is for us to return having successfully defeated Kressle. I am sure that Oleg will gladly slit his throat should Scorpious fail. I want to be sure that we are not being sent off in the wrong direction so that Kressle can rescue our captive.
