[Adventure] Kingmaker (DM:renau1g; judge: garyh)

As the trip continues, Ezmerelda struggles a bit to keep up her formidable pace. Despite the heat of the daylight and the constant exertion, she is powered by more than just muscle, and her will to proceed is unflagging; driving her body to perform in kind.

Before you left, Oleg spoke to Ruarc about a sensitive matter, the bandits had taken his wife's wedding ring and it's greatly distressed her, the return of it would be splendid, and he'd reward the party with a 500 gold credit at the outpost (Minor Quest)[/sblock]

The group manages to come up to the camp without drawing any attention to themselves.

Skill Challenge success! You will gain a chance to ambush the bandits. Please let me know if you want to use any surges after your short rest (I may have missed it). So, I need to know where you intend to approach from, if you plan to use stealth (along with rolls), and for some of you how many surges (if any) you've used to date.

There's a guard stationed on watch platforms at the west side and around the central area of the camp (just to the east of the fire pit). A couple of bandit-looking men are hanging out around the logs just next to the river, and a trio are next to the fire, roasting a boar on the spit.

The woman sitting with the men must be Kressle, the only female here, and the only one wielding anything resembling a high-quality weapon.

Stats:

Ruarc: 23/26 - used 1 surge (skill challenge)
Faustus: 20/26 -
Ezmerelda: 15/31 -
Mari: 28/28 - used 1 surge (skill challenge)
Elurin: 28/28

Ruarc whispers to the group, "Best I wait here for anyone wantin' to sneak up to send up a sign. Not very good at the sneaky stuff myself."

Actually I was just coming here to post that everyone has reached a Milestone! So you all gain an Action Point.

Oh, and if you can manage to defeat Kressle and her gang, you will likely have enough xp to reach a level up...if my math is right...

Faustus, Tiefling Avenger of Lauto

"I'm not that good at sneaking, either. But I've found if you kill the person you're sneaking up on, then it doesn't matter all that much in the long run. ;) Mind if I lag behind with you?"

"Suits me fine, but I'm not planning to be far behind.

[sblock=OOC]Does 4E have a mechanic for 'InstaKill?' One of the things I've never been satisfied with regarding RPGs is the lack of a way to take out sentries (and other 'mooks') without alerting the folks they're watching. So one of the staples of action books and movies doesn't translate.[/sblock]

Unfortunately they don't have anything like that. Even your assassin can't do that... one of the weak spots of 4e I'm afraid. Well, unless it's a minion...but you never know:devil:

Then again it also means that sneaky enemies don't have a way to perform the same thing on a PC watchman

Kressle has some throwing axes, the watchmen have longbows, the others have a small knife they could maybe throw, but no formal ranged weapons. [/sblock]
