Shale summon some kind of astral vortex and teleports the serpent to the corner of the room. The rest of the party presses the advantage, forcing the creature back and dealing several more wounds.

The confused monster can only make half-hearted strikes and retreat slightly.

Kavac: Moves to D17, misses with Swift Panther Rage for 7 damage

Players' Turn

Shale walks forward, holding the crystal in front of him, and continues twisting the fabric of space around the snake. It's quite painful for the creature caught in it, which tries to hold to the place.

[sblock=ooc:]Move to C10, manifest Dimensional Scramble again centered on B18, which hits and deals 7 damage. The good folk at the Discussion Thread tell me that, in fact, I can teleport people upwards into the air, but they get a save against the movemevent effect. I don't care, since the snake is at a good spot and I don' mind not moving it, but in the unlikely event it fails the save, it's teleported at the same coordinates it's now but next to the ceiling (the cave's 3rd upmost square), and unless it can fly then falls suffering 1d10 extra damage and it's prone.[/sblock]

[sblock=Mid-air Teleport]I'll concede to that even though I think it's cheesy. But in this case the enemy won't take damage, and here's why:

Code:
Side View
X = Snake's Space
. = Open Air
- = Floor/Ceiling

.....XX...
.....XX...
..........
----------

The snake is a large creature, which in 3 dimensions is 2x2x2 cube. The room is 3 squares high, and the snake occupies 2 squares of altitude. So even if the snake gets teleported to the top, it can only fall 1 square or 5 feet. This isn't enough to deal damage since you take 1d10 damage every 10 feet you fall.[/sblock]

Brenwar moves around the creature attempting to grant his ally flanking. The snake strikes at him but Brenwar deflects the strike with his shield. Brenwar finally lands a blow on the snake and his prayers cause it to strike a bit slower.

Enfeebling Strike hits the snake so it gets a -2 attack.

"It's trying to back itself into a corner for defensive posturing; we need to cut off its retreat!" Halleck advised, moving toward the group. Not yet able to reach the snake, he continued his verbal assault. "You cannot escape your fate, demon!"
[sblock=ooc/strategy]
It would be ideal if we could get flanking on this thing. It doesn't look possible this turn without taking a OA, thanks to all this Difficult Terrain. Maybe there is some way to utilize Shale's attack to get into position.

Also, I'm not sure if I should continue to sit back and debuff attack, or if I should move up and start granting MBAs the front liners. Does anyone have a damage bonus when they have combat advantage? That would make the decision a no-brainer.

Free talking, Move, Vicious Mockery for a hit (Barely). Snake is now -2 to strike TENT-halleck.

[sblock=Action Block]
Move: to E15
Minor: ??
Standard: Vicious Mockery (Will)

  • Target: Snake
  • Attack: 1d20+4=15 Hit
  • Damage: 1d6+4=6
  • Effect: Snake is -2 penalty to attack rolls until the end of your next turn
[sblock=ignore]
Against the target of this exploit, you gain a bonus to defenses equal to your Charisma modifier (+4) until the start of your next turn (due to Feat). The target can make a melee basic attack against you as a free action and has combat advantage for the attack. If the target makes this attack, an ally of your choice within 5 squares of the target can make a basic attack against the target as a free action and has combat advantage for the attack.

[sblock=ooc:]You're right on both things: I didn't think on the snake as a 2x2x2 block, and it's a bit cheesy. The teleport up won't come often; this is one of the few cases where it could be useful[/sblock]

Seeing a chance to strike as the snake is surrounded Kavac moves behind the head and connects with a mighty swing.
