(Adventure) M1: Goblin Ears and the MTG (dpdx judging) COMPLETED

Tenebrynn stays with Irene as she interrogates the hobgoblin, translating his Goblin into Common for her and vice versa. Turning to the others when he has a chance Tenebrynn adds, "I agree with Nurlan I think that we should head to town and gather more information. We can bring these hobgoblins with us and turn them into the authorities once we have everything we need from them."

(Assuming that we're ready now for the ride into town -- if there's anything else to be done first, consider this post out of order.)

During the ride, Nurlan keeps everyone entertained with songs. He sticks with easy-to-sing tunes with repetitive choruses and "light" subject matters, encouraging everyone to sing along, and hoping to keep people's minds (especially Jezibel's) off of the weightier concerns currently occupying them. At one point, if (as is likely) they don't seem to be enjoying themselves, he will specifically encourage the hobgoblins to join in, and will choose a song with a lot of nonsense syllables to avoid language difficulties.

Monemvasia

You lead your wagon through increasingly populated areas. There are many olive and grape plantations, fields of wheat, and orchards for cherries, pomegranates, and pears. Goats and cows seem in good supply. People look up and smile as you pass. The hobgoblins are sullen, and don't speak unless Irene talks to them. Jezibel seems lost in thought, and is also generally silent.

At last you top a ridge and see Monemvasia proper. A vast boulder, jutting out into the sea, topped be a castle, and joined to the mainland by a narrow causeway.

The sun is setting as you approach the gates to the city, which lie on the mainland, just before the causeway. There is a line at the gates, merchants, peasants, and travelers. There is muttering in the crowd, evidently a toll has been implemented. Now everyone will have to pay to enter the city. A large & wicked-looking half-orc appears to be in charge of the gate. Several humans with glaives and chainmail support him. On the towers around the gate are numerous guards with crossbows.

As your turn approaches, the half-orc looks at the crest on the wagon & says, “Where’s Sven? He owes me money!”

Jezibel

Her pretty face darkens momentarily at the question. "Oh. What a scary day it was. And heres am I with yous I hardly know..."

Irene's looks a bit sad after hearing this comment by Jezibel, but then thinks of something. She sits down next to her and says: "I'm Irene, and I'm a wizard. Not very good, yet, but I'm training to become better at what I do. And how about you?" Irene smiles broadly while waiting to hear what Jezibel has to say.

Jezibel

The girl looks wistful. "A wizard. ah...I only helps out me mum & dad at the barrel shop. I'd like to get married someday, to a nice man. One who don't drink all de time."

Looking around at his companions to see if they can offer anything, Tenebrynn turns to the guard, "Uh, Sven? I dont think that we know a Sven. If he was the one who owned this wagon then unfortunately he feel to the ravages of goblin brigands. We are bringing the wagon back to town to deliver it to his family, we also have a couple of the hobgoblins here to turn over to the authorities."

The half orc scowls at the elf, as though only half-hearing his words. He walks around the wagon, and sees the bodies of the humans you are bringing. "Sven!" he shouts at the body. "You can't hide there! Where's my money!"

"Are you stupid or something? The Sven-guy isn't going to talk to you unless you get some magical help. So unless his body isn't on this wagon, he's as dead as it gets, and there's no refund for money given to dead people. Now please get out of our way, we're tired from a long ride and would like to get some rest."
