(Adventure) Of eggs and desires [GnomeWorks judging]

Rika said:
By the way, what was that guy's problem?
"He's part elf, who can tell with their sensabilities. Present company excluded, of course."
Planus said:
Who did the rider attack?
"He didn't attack anyone, he just didn't take to kindly to my questioning his purpose and chose to leave by the most expeditious path."
Rika said:
By the way, Devlin, tell us where your going before you vanish next time.
"If if feel it is in the party's best interest then I will undoubtedly inform you of my intentions. If not, then I won't."

Once the group begins to head out again, after Devlin answers the questions about their follower and Sturm & Planus answer any questions regarding their brief encounter, Devlin resumes his position riding point. After a few minutes, he turns back to the group, "Let's pick up the pace a bit if you don't mind. I want to try and reach Apple Glade before it gets too late. With what we've already encountered out here, I don't relish the thought of spending the night on the side of this road."

With that, Devlin turns forward and begins setting a brisker pace.

"Well, I believe we just added to the tales of bandits on these roads. I love finishing a hunt as well as the next." Planus makes a motion like drawing back a bow string. "Twang! Its so exciting! But, a person fleeing after an armed man jumps from the bushes certainly does NOT warrant an arrow in the neck. Thunk! Ehhhh." While saying 'Ehhh', Planus sticks his tongue out to the side in imitation of a dying man.

Ironwolf grins, apreciating Planus's performance. Then, more seriously:

"You're right, Planus. Best we all take care not to be too easilly provoked. We don't want to harm any innocents."

On the other hand, when a person tries to run a friend over with his horse, shooting them in the neck is completely justified. I don't think that if the man was just a traveler he would have tried to trample Devlin.

The companions continue their way on the road, with Devlin leading them at a brisker pace. Although the stop at the inn allowed them to cold down, the afternoon sun is now shining brightly. It’s not long before they are all sweaty and laboring. The metal on Rika’s and Sturm’s armors becomes almost too hot to touch while those in leather armor are starting to find the thick hide uncomfortable. Good thing they have plenty of water.

Two hours pass before they reach a very large and old oak, just like Debra said earlier. On the side of this tree lies a small path, leading off the road, to the north east, and into the wooded hills. The dirt path is barely wide enough for a small cart. A small wood sign is planted on the side of it. It’s old and the painted message is almost completely worn out. The group can only decipher a few bits of it.

“Ap..e Gla…..0 m..es
B..are of t…..te..ap.”

Most of them aren’t affected too badly by the heat except for Planus who’s now getting dizzy and weak. He find the large shade provided by the oak really inviting.

Planus, experienced with the dangers of the wilderness, thinks of various ways he could protect himself, and possibly others, from the heat, but they would have to travel slower. [OOC: see the survival skill]

OOC: Fortitude rolls for the heat
Devlin 1st: 19+2-2(leather armor)=19 (success); 2nd: 19 (success). (wow!)
Ironwolf 1st: 10+4-2(leather)=12 (success); 2nd: 13+2=15 (success).
Planus 1st: 7+2-2(leather)=7 (failure); 2nd: 10 (failure); Planus takes 2d4 of nonlethal damage: 3+4=7 (two more and he passes out).
Rika 1st: 15+2-4(metal armor)=13 (success); 2nd: 15-2=13 (success).
Sturm 1st: 9+7-4(metal armor)=12 (success); 2nd: 1+3=4 (failure); Sturm takes 1d4 of nonlethal damage: 1 (doesn’t bothers him much).
Rolls were also made for your horses and the donkey, but I’m keeping the results secret :] . They are all laboring though (but not on the verge of death).

EDIT: I forgot to mention that Sturm and Planus are both fatigued.

"Ow!"
Elven:
I am more used to walking through the beautiful shade of the forest than this riding along the road. I'm getting rather light-headed. Lets pause in this shade for a moment to let me catch my breath.

Ironwolf Kinkaid, Human Psychic Warrior

"Eh? Didn't catch that, Planus. You know, you don't look well. Can you call upon your god for some healing, or possibly some protection from the heat? I'd rather not stop, but if you need to we can call a break and all try to rest, then continue once the sun sets. Ought to be cooler then."

Planus shakes his head groggily. "Huh? Oh, sorry, its just this sun. You are right, perhaps Mongrel's aid would be even better than rest." Planus fingers his holy symbol and says, "Mongrel, please make me feel better." Planus is very slightly refreshed. "We can continue, but I'm afraid we will have to slow down a bit." His shoulders slump as his mood darkens from his previous cheerfulness. Planus dampens a piece of clothe and ties it around his head. He will describe any other precautionary measures they might take.

OOC: Trade Magic Weapon to cast Cure Light Wounds.
Planus removes [dice] + 1 subdual damage. Now has 5 non-lethal damage.
D'oh!

Devlin notices the distress the combination of heat and pace is having on his companions.

"A brief rest does appear to be in order. Perhaps one of us can decipher that sign while we recuperate a little."

Devlin then dismounts and, after taking his waterskin from his donkey, sits down on the grass near the sign.
