Surprise round

Initiative:

Loskrad 24*
Lothé 21*
Winged Fungus
Jack 18
Shadowlyn 18 <was 27 before taking the readied action>
4 Rat Skeletons
Mintrik 17*
Fungi
Shilo 5
Reilin 4*

* were still in the tunnel, and won't be around until after the surprise round. They will be able to act in round 1.

Jack fires an arrow at the winged fungus, but misses squarely [attack roll of 1], while Shadowlyn's arrow definitely pierces the creature, which lets out a horrible sound [3 points of damage]

Shilo rushes a short distance into the room, intent to protect Shadowlyn from immediate attacks.

"Son of a Mutt," Jack grumbles at his ill luck.

(If the winged fungus stays back...)

Jack nocks a second arrow and lets fly at the winged beasty.

Attack: Shortbow +6, 1d4 damage.

(If the winged fingus approaches close enough...)

Jack drops his bow and somersaults around the disgusting creature. Rolling back up to his feet, his shortsword flashes in his hand, and he unexpectedly attacks from behind.

Tumble 20' into a flanking position, if possible. Then, attack.
Tumble +8.
Attack: Short Sword +7, 1d4 damage.

Loskrad moves to the front of the group to try to prevent the fungus and any other creatures from getting at the other members of the party. He will attack whatever comes within reach first.

Loskrad steps out of the tunnel, noticing a detail that must have been out of sight of the two halflings earlier - a broken table on the southern-western corner (and inside the glow), that might have been useful for alchemical processes once.

Lothé rushes out as well, dagger drawn, also in a defensive stance.

The winged fungus yells something, then moves closer to the other tunnel.
Mintrik:
[sblock]The yell basically translate to "Stop them," but is more profane.[/sblock]

Jack lets another arrow fly, which this time bounces off of the creature [attack roll 9, stopped by nat armor].

Shadowlyn again has more luck, hitting the fleeing creature [4 damage], which now slumps down and ceases to move.

The four rat skeletons rush towards, triggering readied attacks from Lothé, Shilo and Loskrad, but, surprisingly, all three miss [attack rolls 8, 5, and 2]. Ironically enough, the rats also fail to damage the three.

*Mintrik may choose if he still wants to shoot the winged fungus, or go for a different target*

The other two fungi close in the the group now, but beign slower than the rats, do not make it as far.

Reilin again tries to turn undead, and this time is more sucessful [turns 4 HD of Undead].

*Seeing the winged fungus drop, Mintrik instead targets the closer fungus (the darker one is the one a bit farther away), but misses*

Initiative changes after readied actions:
Winged Fungus
-2
Jack 18
Shadowlyn 18
Loskrad 17
Lothé 17
Shilo 17
4 Rat Skeletons <turned>
Mintrik 17
Fungi
Reilin 4

Jack and Shadowlyn each take shots at the approaching fungi, and this time, Jack hits while Shadowlyn misses the closest fungus [attack roll of 6]. Jack isn't very happy to see he only dealt little damage, though [1 point of damage].
Loskrad strikes at the rat skeleton closest to the tunnel entrance, shattering it instantly [7 points of damage, reduced from 12].
Inspired by this, Lothé also attacks one of the rats, but though he connects, his dagger is of little use against the skeletal beast [no damage due to DR].
Shilo, while ready to let no one pass, doesn't manage to hit any of the rats [attack roll 2].
The remaining three rat skeletons rush towards the other tunnel, but since they run around the glow, don't quite make it and the flight opens up another opportunity for the frontline fighters, with Loskrad dropping one rat, and Shilo damaging one, now missing a bit of its ribcage [AOO from Loskrad - drops one rat with seven damage; Lothé doesn't hit; Shilo deals two damage].
Mintrik takes another shot at the approaching fungi, but misses again [attack roll of 4].

The two remaining fungi now charge at the heroes at the front, the darker one at Loskrad, the other at Lothe. Loskrad feels the pain of the ... claws, and something else that harmlessly dissipates. Then he notices his strength sap from his body - he suffered some of the poison these fungi carry [1 point of damage; wasted smite good; 1 point of Strength damage].
Lothé has far more luck, as the fungus attacking him hardly scratches him.

Reilin takes his quarterstaff, and joins the melee against the fungi, but the creature he attacked evades just in time.

Shadowlyn seizes the opportunity to try out her other weapon, sensing that it can do more damage then her sling at this time. She will try to move to flank one of these creatures, and smash at it with her Morningstar if she is able to do so with a 5 step move. If not, she will simply strike out at the nearest target.

Morningstar +2, 1d6+1dmg, crit x2
