Loskrad yells as one of the creatures strikes him. His blade feels slightly heavier in his hands now, but he is still able to move it around with ease. Eager for payback, he strikes back against the darker fungus.

Temporary stats:
Strength 15 (+2)
Greatsword +4 2d6+3 19-20/x2

Jack tries to tumble past one of the fungi, but stumbles at a critical moment [Tumble roll 11], opening his defenses against his opponent, but the fungus only touches the armor. Jack's counter strike, disturbed by the failed tumbling attempt, is just as much of a failure [attack roll 10].

Shadowlyn, using a simple step to get into melee, has even less luck as the creature she attacked stepped aside just in time [attack roll 3].

Loskrad, though he thinks he only struck a glancing blow [attack roll 15] actually manages to cut deep into the dark fungus [dealing 9 damage] which slumps to the ground as well.

Lothé again misses wildly, and Shilo doesn't get a good bite either. The rat skeletons are now well into the other tunnel, and Mintrik's crossbow bolt misses again.

The remaining fungus wounds Lothé, who yells in pain [1 damage, 1 Str damage], and Reilin brings his quarterstaff to bear. Despite being a clearly powerful strike, however, it has no noticeable effect on the creature.

"Should've stayed in bed," Jack grumbles to himself. He goes back to basics, and makes a simple side-step to surround the fungus monster.

5' step into flanking position, if possible.
Attack: Short Sword +7, 1d4 damage (+1d6 sneak attack).

The group flails away at the remaining fungus mostly ineffectually, except for Shilo, who gets a nice bite out of the creature (2 points of damage). The beast tries to claw the dog in retaliation, but misses. Then Jack and Loskrad manage to bring it down together (1 damage by Jack, 8 by Loskrad).

The column of light glows a bit lighter as the group finishes off the helpless plant creatures, but does not yet turn golden. A few flakes of mold drop from the walls and the broken table in the corner, though, maybe a sign that the group is on the right track.

"I'm afraid all I've got is this oversized sword, Jack," Loskrad jokes. The young man walks towards the broken table in the corner and examines the mold. "What do you suppose we do now?"

The mold, as it has been everywhere else, consists of many colors, though that in the column of light continues to shrivel, blacken, and flake off the walls slowly. Looking over the broken table, Loskrad sees some glass shards, what may have been pieces of paper, and other miscellaneous alchemic tools damaged beyond repair.

To Loskrad's question, Reilin speaks up "I think we need to seal off the other tunnel before the column turns golden fully. Unless we want to explore further down that tunnel and return later, of course."
