Velbrik says, "I think we should keep moving as long as we can."

Did you include "work time" for Velbrik for the inspire competence checks (even if it's only an extra couple minutes; not sure how you're doing those?

Velbrik, since you make one check for every hour you go beyond 8 (i.e, at the 9 hour mark, the 10 hour mark, etc.) a few minutes here or there doesn't matter.

You all slog merrily onwards. Mostly merrily. Not very merrily at all, actually. By the time you're ready to make camp, you're all sore, so tired you're nearly ready to pass out, and it's pretty dark.

Okay, everyone failed their checks this last time. Garret takes 6 subdual damage, Velbrik takes 1, and Jaan and Ioleta take 3 more for a total of 4 each. Anyone who's taken damage is fatigued until it heals (subdual damage heals at the rate of 1 point her hit die per hour).

What's the watch order? Fire, no fire? Sleeping how?

Garret Tealeaf

Feeling that the last hour had completely drained him, Garret signals to a stop and gather everyone.

"Well, this is about it for the day, that last effort really got into me and I'm as tired as I can be. It has been a long day and all the tracking has left me comletely exhausted."

Having said so, Garret looks for the best place to make a camp, trying hard to find a place protected from the wind so that they won't need a fire to keep themselves warm..

"I feel too tired to take the first shifts, so I'd like to take the last one" he tells them as he starts munching on a trail ration.

...

OOC: Garret will go to sleep as soon as he can. He isn't carrying any sheets or so since he has no trouble in making himself a land bed to keep the warmth. Let's hope for a good survival roll so that we all get a +4 on those cold saves ;)

Jaan draws to a weary halt. Its been a while since he has pushed himself like this and his legs and lower back don't appreciate his having done it today it. But looking around, he sees that the others are all in the same boat. His eyes feel gritty and rough from the lack sleep last night. If you're going to take the mid watch, then get to bed early this time.

"All right there everyone? 4 watches of three hours. I'll take the 3rd, but I'm going to crash out now if no one minds. Wake me at midnight? And save me a little food if you make anything."

Assuming no objections are raised, Jaan pulls out his traveller's cloak and finds himself a sheltered spot. He strips of his maces, setting the backpack up as a pillow and with the maces laid beside it. As an after thought, he pulls out a sunrod and slots it somewhere easily reached. Wrapping himself up in the cloak, he sleeps.

ooc: TH: How do XP/Levels work work in LEW. Or more accurately, how are they allocated/used? I haven't been to the discussion threads in ages. Jaan's on 800 - his reward for standing in the rain for 5 months.

Velbrik shrugs sleepily. "I'll take the first watch, then. I can put an illusion over our camp if you fellows think it would be wise; it would last as long as I can keep focusing on it, though I doubt it will adversely affect my alertness." He reaches into his backpack for a pack of trail rations and eats them quietly while he waits for a response.

Ioleta collapses into a heap when the group finally comes to a halt. It is uncertain that she is awake, or even alive, until she inhales deeply and slithers with a groan out from the straps of her pack. With a weak smile she says in an odd accent, "I feel like I've been rode hard and put up wet." She leans back against her pack, grateful now for its bulk as she relaxes tired, torn muscles.

She peers at Garret, "You're quite the woodsman. Troi would approve. Maybe." She reaches down to her belt and struggles briefly with the tangles of her sling before wrapping it around her hand. She nods gratefully at Velbrik, "Wake me when it's my turn..."

'Turn' trails off into a mumble and the young lady is asleep, curled around her pack.

TH is out of town until the 22nd.

BTW, this would be a convenient time to mention that I will also be out of town, starting June 22nd and returning July 5th. Most likely, I won't have access to a computer. I see a couple of options so as not to disrupt the game: NPC, giving Velbrik temporarily to another player (maybe GW since you don't have an active character right now), ignored, ignored but used as a prop (i.e., given over temporarily to all of the other players). Any input?

That's a generous offer, WizWrm, but I think I'll decline on playing Velbrik while you're gone... I don't know if I could do him justice. So unless everybody else would prefer that (or if you insist ;)), I'd rather not.
