"That sounds like a good plan to me" responds Garreth as he quietly and cautiosly starts to move forward, taking a distance from the group.

OOC: Garreth will move using stealth from now on until further notice

Velbrik nods. As the group moves forward, he falls into place, trying to remain stealthy without losing his position.

Hide +8, Move Silently +7

Jaan Saaresar

Jaan, not for the first time, wonders why the Church of the Greenman makes it so hard for one of its guardians to learn the ways of the wild. I can learn to be a lawyer, but not a hunter. Unless of course I wish to abandon the Way.

At least they don't insist on clanking plate armour. Something to be grateful for I suppose.

With one last check of his equipment, Jaan takes up position to the left of Ioleta, and a little behind to better allow him to keep an eye on her. In order to keep postion.

ooc: Listen +2, Move silently +2, Spot +2.

Note: I'm going to be gone from the 20th til the 4th of October. I'm not going to have much in the way off access, so don't wait up for me. Feel free to ghost Jaan. Er, .. just in case, he a paladin, so no killing prisoners, etc please.

Creeping slowly, slowly forward,* Garrett finds more evidence of the chase. Two people chased the eventual body down the path for some distance, all at a full sprint. As said before, the body was of fairly light build, although wearing some kind of armor. Of the two chasing, one was probably a medium build human in light armor, and the other was very light and stepped very lightly despite his high speed. Both persuers stopped at some point during the chase to shoot- you can see where they planted their feet before sprinting off. Again, someone seems to have come by and cleaned everything up.

*1/2 speed for forest, 1/2 speed for tracking, 1/2 speed for sneaking=1/8 speed. :)

After about quarter of an hour of of crawling through the forest, Jaan quietly calls in the others.

"I think the danger of losing the trail is greater than that of being spotted. Garreth, can you pick up the pace a little. Even strolling through the forest I think you have less chance of being noticed than we do.

"If we run into trouble, we can fight our way out. If we lose the trail, there really is nothing left to do. Except perhaps go back to town for some dogs. And the longer it talks to find Troi ... well, I just think we can't afford that much time.

ooc: ie we can't do anything about the forest, and Garreth needs to track. So we get back up to 1/4 speed. That will still allow the rest of us to concentrate on "sneaking".

Ioleta cocks her head as Jaan speaks smiling vaguely. She nods at his direction and hangs back to take her position in the middle. From here it will be her job to spot for Garret, as the Ranger will be absorbed in finding the trail. She shrugs her shoulders, tensing and relaxing them, as Garret moves several paces ahead.

She checks the draw on her many blades and unwinds the sling wrapped around her fist. She fidgets with the slingstones in her left hand and is secretly grateful not to have to take the lead or bring up the rear. Her footsteps themselves are well-placed, but the pack has her off-balance and she's not terribly successful at silently negotiating the forest underbrush. She does keep a sharp lookout ahead and to the sides, however, eyes scanning and rescanning the brush, the trees, the branches, even scanning the sky through the occasional break in the canopy above.

OOC: Move Silently: -1; Spot: +5

At some point, Garret realizes that there are four tracks heading against the three runners going the other way, and two of them before the other two (he can tell the relative timing of the tracks because a footprint atop another footprint leaves a noticable mark). The tracks leading the second pair matches the bootprint of the body, and the follower's tracks, you realize, lead off from where a rut in the ground probably indicated a sitting person. You had dimissed the rut as "noise" at first, just a caravener taking a rest, but you match the tracks now.

The path eventually leads him into a clearing, which is obviously a good spot for an ambush, with a slight to both north and south rise and heavy underbrush. The group needn't worry, though, because the ambushing is all in the past, and the tracks on the ground are a confused criss-cross. The first pair of tracks into the clearing go through it, circle around, and end up on the southern hill, where deep footprints suggest they stood for some time before becoming the chasing pair of footprints heading the other way. The second pair of tracks goes into the center of the clearing. The leading pair of footprints turns in place, runs to cover on the northern side of the clearing, runs to the southern side of the clearing, runs back, and becomes the chased pair of bootprints that culminates in the body. You note that all the trees, on both the northern and southern sides bordering the clearing, are slightly worn about six inches off the ground, as if a rope were tied around them. The second set of footprints follows the first into the clearing, backs up several feet, falls to its knees, and then collapses, lying there for some time. Again, it appears that someone has done their best to hide all of the tracks- but there is only so much one can do about the copious amounts of blood the one that lay here seeped into the forest floor.

As Garret tracks, he feel fully in tune with the forest, each detail seeming to call to him. He moves through the world in a trance, capable of calling out details as he sees them.*

* Like Aragorn! :D You rolled quite nicely.

Well, this little guy has proved his worth on the tracking field, which makes his leveling up quite easy for me (all to knowledge nature and survival) ^_-

As he unveils the secrets of what happened in the place, Garret feels as if he somehow, just for a second, has managed to merge with the nature. This particualr feeling is what he had always searched, and he was quite impressed that it had come to him so early in his carreer. At least now he was comletely sure that the ranger path was the only one for him.

"And that is about all that I can see in here" he says finishing his description of the events that had happened in the place. He gives a small pause after that, waiting for them to decide what to do next.
