(Adventure) Rivenblight's Castaway [Creamsteak judging]

Just as he says the words, Garret spots one more thing- bootprints, matching the chasers, come in from the nothern side to visit, and probably retrieve, the body that lay in the clearing and to make one or two circles around it, for unknown reasons. Then they leave, and their deep footprints indicate they must both be carrying heavy loads.

Sorry, got so wrapped up in making sure I got the details right I forgot that important bit about you still having tracks to follow. :P

"And here you can see the last tracks made, and the ones we should follow now. Let's hope we can find your friend soon..."

As he watches the tracks and his companions, Garret gives a small sigh Well, more tracks to follow again. Earn your gold Garret is what he tells himself as he starts moving once again.

It is not very long- perhaps five hundred feet trough the forests-until Garret and Jaan see birds through a gap in the trees. Normally not anything of note, these birds draw the attention because they are circling one paticular spot perhaps another 100 yards ahead. Velbrik, once they are pointed out to them, recognizes them as carrion birds. Jaan could have sworn they were eagles.*

Natural 1 on Knowledge: Nature. :p

Velbrik says, "Carrion birds. A dead body, it seems, but it is best that we not jump to any conclusions." He nods in the direction of the birds, and with bow still drawn, begins heading towards them. "Onward, I suppose. We can regain the trail after we investigate."

Leaving the trail turns out ot be unnecessary, as it shortly veers in that direction and becomes much clearer. Apparently the bandits decided to trade stealth for speed once a safe distance away from the clearing. Garret can clearly see from the depths of the footprints that both of the people were obviously carrying heavy loads.

Shortly another small clearing is reached, and the group can see ahead of them that a body has been laid out. It is somewhat difficult to see through the intervening brush, but you can tell that it isn't Troi, but instead another young man, and despite the circling birds the body appears to be untouched. A slightly close look and some shifting allows you to see the man’s face, which is pale but has two dark green lines under the eyes. Some sort of paint? The tracks lead directly to the body.

The circling birds make the girl shiver. She had fought many of them off at the monastery, when she and the beleagured survivors had buried the gruesomely dead. But the sight of a body startles her out of the dreadful memory.

Ioleta rushes forward kneeling, forgetting for a moment, her hostile environs and the delicate tracks they follow. She reaches out to feel for warmth and pulse but stops abruptly - the look of concern on her face turning to one of wariness. She stands again, crouched low and with a sad look at the body at her feet scrutinizes the brush and briar all around for their quarry.

As Ioleta rushes forward towards the body, her foot hits a tripwire. The tripwire, snaking around and upwards, twitches a dagger against a frayed rope. The frayed rope snaps, and the half-sawed branch that it was holding up lets go with a loud snap. Ioleta hears this and looks up in time to dodge to the left and avoid having her skull split open; instead, the branch catches her on her shoulder and knocks her to the ground. She passes out almost immediately.

13 damage. When y'all failed your spot checks, I was 9/10 sure that Garret was going to be on the receiving end of that one.

Jaan Saaresar

Jaan catches a glimps of the flickering rope end and the glint of the knife and leaps forwards, immediately recognising what has happened. Lacking any divine ability of use here, he does his best to help Ioleta with his mundane skills.

ooc: rolled a spot check to see how quickly he realised what had happened. Spot 20+2! Heal 14+3.

TH: Jaan is on 800xp. Can characters level up during a game, or do they need some form of interlude?
