(Adventure) The Burning Tower (Knight Otu Judging) [Concluded]

Persephone

Persephone holds her crossbow at ready, but also ready to release her grip with her right hand. She will not initiate hostility against this suit of armor, but if combat breaks out, she will fire her magic missiles at it. (2d4+2)

"Back up and encircle it!" shouts Fant, and heads over to follow her own advice. "Ishmael, with me!" An odd thought crosses her mind- she's done this before: fighting an animated suit of armor after a tatooed, greatsword-wielding ally breaks down a magically locked door. Curious, she thinks, holding her shield high and her arm back, ready to swing.

ooc: Fant's goal is the following:
Code:
_____/_____
    MEG
    IRF
M is Mourlas, E is enemy, etc, etc. Nars and Persephone are off in the back somewhere.

Since she expects Rodimus to take a step back (and presumably ready an action to strike), she'll move just behind Gorefoot and similarily ready an action to attack the construct once it steps through the door.

Looming in the doorway, apparently just about to open the door, stands an intricate suit of armor, one gauntleted hand grasping an extremely fine Halberd. The armor is obviously empty of occupant, but just as obviously mobile and threatening.

"Soulless servants for every occasion there are" the elf growls "would Rilithorne have entrusted a living apprentice or two with his secrets he might have had somebody to help him when his experimentations failed or even note a mistake before it was made."

Once the animated Armor gets within reach Morulas brings his slender blade down in a dashing circular slash that nonetheless carries all the elfs spite and loathing for the human wizard that trapped him like a caged animal.

Ooc:
Morulas remains at the ready (right?)

Yes, I guess he will aslong as he cannot strike.
When he gets a chance to skewer the Guardian (preferably in Fants setup)
he'll go for it and likely keep fighting for 2 or 3 rounds:
Attack: +2, Damage: 1d8+1 (not counting flanking or some such)

Rodimus takes a step back and readies to perform his specialist technique on the suit of armor.

OoC: Ready action to grapple the suit. Bonus for touch attack +3 (has Improved Grapple, so doesn't provoke attacks of opportunity), Grapple bonus +7, and damage d6+3

Round 2, continued

Rodimus steps back, ready to grapple the enemy.

Persephone stands ready to launch magic missiles if the animated armor proves hostile.

Does Fant want to double move to get around the couches and into position at the west door? She's currently guarding the east door, with Ishmael. Similarly, I'd like a clarification from Ishmael.

"Rust and Tarnish! Not even a scratch!" Knowing he will not have a clear shot Nars will put away his crossbow and draw his short swords and look for a chance to take up a position in Fant's box should someone fall.

OOC: Put away crossbow (move eq), draw short swords (move eq). Nars doesn't know Rodimus intends to grapple, but that should free a space in the front line if successful. (+2 single, +0/+0 double, damage 1d6+2/1d6+1)

ooc: Ishmael will go with Fant to the west door. He'll try to squeeze wherever there is space, so that he could get an attack in on the creature should it be hostile.

Round 2 Concludes

Fant and Ishmael move to the west door, and the party is now positioned as Fant specified.

The animated armor steps into the doorway, but not fully into the room. Morulas takes a swing at it, despite the cover provided by the doorway. (d20=18)+2=20, a hit even with the cover. A solid blow which would otherwise do 5 points of damage, but is deflected without a scratch! It seems only the most heroic of blows will hurt these things. Morulas now moves after Fant.

The armor takes a swing at Morulas as well, demonstrating its hostile intent. Persephone throws magic missiles at it, causing 5 points of damage. [I think an animated object is a valid target for a magic missile, and I also think magic missiles ignore hardness. I may be wrong on either or both, but that's how I'm ruling for this battle. If anyone wants to educate me differently, I'd apreciate it, but my ruling will remain the same for purposes of this battle.] Persephone now moves after Morulas.

The armor hits Morulas for 4 points of damage. A hard blow, but the doubty Ranger remains standing.

At the east end of the room, the door is opened by another suit of armor, nearly identical to the first. It moves into the room and threatens Persephone, but is unable to strike this round.

Round 3 begins

New Initiative order:

Nars (Who will put away his crossbow and draw short swords.)
Goorfoot
Rodimus
Ishmael
Fant
Morulas
Persephone
Animated Armors

OOC: Ishmael will delay his action until right after Fant's turn to see if she will order him to stay and attack the creature or to go back and protect Persephone.

OOC2: Is it a move or a double move for Ishmael (speed 20) to get back to his earlier position?

OOC3: From what I remember, an animated object is not an object but a creature and thus is viable for targeting for magic missile. But force effects do not bypass hardness so...
