(Adventure) The Burning Tower (Knight Otu Judging) [Concluded]

Gliding up the stair behind Fant of Lionel, Morulas circles around to stand a bit to the right of the noble woman, stopping short of the Constuct at roughly the distance the lady recommends.

Once more bewildered by the human wizards choice to trust soulless automatons above living guards and companions, the Elf circles the halberd around, ready to skewer the brute.

Ooc:

In short, Morulas will follow this lead after having delayed his actions long enough for those in front of him to clear the stairs.

ooc: Move 15' and ready an action to attack the construct. Aforementioned contruct likely has reach, so it is likely the last 5' of movement will be incorporated in that readied action to step and smack it. Fant reccomends similar actions to the rest of the group- charging just gets you an AoO.

Is that even legal? sounds wicked... either way, since I have to wait for Fant and Gorefoot to move, my action will likely be after the construct. If Morulas can attack it without provoking an AoO he will do so.
[Attack +3 / Damage d10 +2], not counting flanking, etc..

Rodimus moves away from the stairs so the others can get in and readies to tackle the scrap metal when it gets within range.

OoC: Move 30ft to make room, then ready action to partial charge and grapple the monkey (yes, I know it's Large, I can take it) on the trigger "when it attacks". Tumble to avoid AoO.

Round 1, Part 2

Rodimus moves in warilly, ready to pounce if the construct attacks.

Morulas delays until after Gorefoot.

Nars stays limber, prepared to avoid any incoming attacks. Taking a good look at the construct, Nars notes that the design appears to incorporate wood as well as metal, perhaps making the construct more vulnerable in some ways than the animated armor, in spite of its heavy plating. Some of the metal looks to be adamantine, and it will no doubt be difficult to hurt, but it posesses vulnerabilities the metal armor did not.

Ishmael follows the example set by Nars, moving up beside him defensively.

Fant moves to the top of the stairs and readies an action. ooc:

You can take a 5-foot step as part of your readied action, but only if you don’t otherwise move any distance during the round.
Fant cannot incorporate a 5' step into her readied action, as she moved allready this round. In any case, she's unlikely to be able o do so due to her position -- while I know Fant wanted the party to form a line, in the ensuing chaos of different starting positions and movement rates, the party has not done so.

The construct charges straight in at Rodimus, attacking him and triggering his readied action. Rodimus charges out to meet the construct, moving through it's threatened area to do so, but tumbling around any attack of opportunity the construct might otherwise make. Rodimus begins a grapple, dragging the construct to a halt and messing up its charge. [I'm changing its actions to a single move & attack, but I'll leave the penalty to AC in effect.] Struggling, the construct manages to bring one of its hammerlike arms up and strikes at Rodimus, knocking him loose as it does 12 points of damage and renders him unconcious.

Gorefoot is up.

|G| /

X=Construct & Unconcious Rodimus, sharing a space.

Edit: Unfortunately, the final result was similar even taking into account the tumble, although positions have changed slightly and Rodimus took a little less damage.

Nars gulps knowing that he could be fell from a single blow of this nasty creature. He will move 20 ft straight north to the wall, hoping the construct will charge Ishmael who is obviously the greater threat. Obviously :). And again he will prepare to ward off any blows.

OOC:
Total defense again. AC 21. If only I had that 5th rank of tumble.
Does the construct occupy 4 spaces as a large creature? I'm a little confused on how much of the room it threatens.

"Aiya! As I feared. Rilithorne guarded his upper levels well."

Ooc:

Are there penalties for changing my action while waiting for Gorefoot to move?
How much does Morulas see/hear/know about the happenings upstairs?

If possible, and assuming noone else will try a grapple, Morulas will drink the potion of Cat's Grace and ready his bow instead of the halberd as he takes up his position besides Fant.

OoC: Darn, I was really hoping the thing couldn't hit me in a grapple. Need to get me a couple more levels before trying something like that again, I guess.
Beat the darn thing!

Diagram above clarifies which 4 spaces it takes up.

No problem changing actions after a delay action. While Morulas can't see what's going on yet, he can hear just fine. Rodimus's scream is enough, IMO, to justify the new plan.
