(Adventure) The Burning Tower (Knight Otu Judging) [Concluded]

Persephone

Feeling useless in combat, Persephone wanders about the enclosure, hoping to stumble across a source of fire that could perhaps be extinguished in order to put out the living spell. She tries to stay well away from the sounds of combat.

OOC: I don't see what else she can do, actually...

Fant lets out a hiss of pain between clenched teeth as the burning oil splashes on her legs. She sees (so to speak) the tactic is effective, though. She contemplates, briefly, encouraging it. A gamble if they set one of our own aflame, but if it works... no. If the only wounds you've suffered so far are from your own side, something is wrong. "Improve your aim or use your weapons!"

ooc: Waiting for Icycool to check in -- is Gorefoot going to keep swinging, or is he going to do something more complicated?

Gorefoot - Gnome Barbarian 1

Gorefoot continues to rain blows down upon the creatures general area, growing more frustrated with each miss.

OOC: Gorefoot will keep power attacking for now. With fant flanking that will help. No rage yet.

Ishmael could not see if he had been effective or not. But he thinks that this might be the one way he could hurt the thing.

He pulled out another prepared oil flask. Instead of throwing it this time, he touched it to the miniature archery target that hung from his neck. The Deep Halfling invoked the arcane energies residing within him, summoning them to guide his throw to his target.

Fant continues her duel with the smoke, trying to keep its smoky claws from her and distracting it enough that Gorefoot can land another blow. A thought occurs to her- if she can distract it, other can as well. And if the smoke will only cause them to cough, and not to suffocate as she had feared, there's no reason not to call in reinforcements. "All you out there, try to surround and distract it. Make sure what you're attacking in the smoke."

Same shtick as before. The optimal configuration is to entirely surround the creature, with each one of us making "aid another" checks for Gorefoot. With a potential +16 to hit from Aid Another, this should speed things up considerably. :)

The orignal logic behind not brininging everyone in was that the smoke was of the "Can't breath at all" variety, meaning we had [con score] rounds before we risked dying off. This struck Fant as a Bad Idea.

I realize this sort of messes up Ishmael, but Fant can't see what Ishmael's doing, so...

"We are coming, mi' Lady." Nars, happy to be able to help, moves in as per his readied action. If necessary, he'll spend a round to make sure he is targeting the Living Smoke, and then will aid another for Gorefoot.

OOC: Attack bonus +2, +4 if flanking.

Round 5

Initiative: Fant, Nars, Rodimus, Morulas, Persephone, Ishmael, Gorefoot, Living Spell.

Fant strikes at the living spell, trying to distract it. Unfortunately, she doesn't manage to divert its attention from Gorefoot this time (though she is still flanking.)

Nars charges in and attempts to locate the living spell. He will be in a position to act next round.

(Rodimus and Morulas can go here if they respond to Fant's call.)

Persephone casts mage armor on herself.

Ishmael's attempt to cast True Stike draws an attack of opportunity from the Living Spell. It misses him by a very narrow margin, and his eyes light with knowledge of the immediate future.

Gorefoot attacks, smashing the living spell with a solid blow. He does 4 points of damage.

subtotal of Damage: 10 pts (Gorefoot 4 pts, x2; Ishmael 1 pt, x2)
