(Adventure) The Burning Tower (Knight Otu Judging) [Concluded]

Conditions inside the bubble

Ishmael succesfully casts expeditious retreat.

Fant, Gorefoot, Ishmael, and Persephone move inside the last containment field, ready to do battle with the strange creature of smoke and sparks.

A writhing stream of smoke fills the inner area, forming a choking cloud. All sight, even darkvision, is ineffective in or through the cloud. Those exposed begin to cough and gag. OOC: All within the cloud take –4 penalties to Strength and Dexterity if they fail a Fortitude save.

Initiative
Persephone (21)
Ishmael (21)
Gorefoot (12)
Fant (10)
Living Pyrotechnics Spell (8)

Everyone else: Not acting in round one (if I understand correctly), can specify any readied actions.

Please make saves and state actions. You can't see the enemy yet. Persephone, your intention to use targeted spell isn't going to work, as the enemy has total concealment. If you want to use a scroll *as you enter* you can, but once fully inside that will also be a problem.

Fortitude Save: +7

[dice]

11+7=18

Ishmael gagged on the acrid smoke.

But he wasn't out just yet. He listened carefully (Listen +1) for a sign of the creature's approach. If it struck him or tried to engulf him, then he would warn the others to its location.

He cast a divination upon himself (Concentration: +1) that allowed him to see magick auras. There was a small chance that he could find its position this way. (Spell Failure 10%)

Gorefoot - Gnome Barbarian 1

Fortitude save is +5
[dice]

Gorefoot lets the pain of the stinging smoke fill his thoughts with violence as he listens for the beast.

OOC: Gorefoot is listening for the creature to try and pinpoint where it will comefrom.

If he makes his save, he'll ready an action to attack the creature.

If he fails his save, he'll rage, give a pain and rage-filled cry, and *sigh* :heh: charge into the smoke looking for the beast.

Listen +4

[Edit]Yay! Looks like Gorefoot may have made his save :D[/Edit]

ooc: My reccomendation would be to put the dice rolls behind (sblock)(/sblock)s, 'cause they're kind of visually distracting...
[sblock]
[dice]
16+4=20
[/sblock]

"Steady, Percy...." Fant will, like the others, strain her senses to detect the foe (who, if it sticks to its previous tactics, should be charging them madly any second now). She'll lash out as soon as it gets next to her, and direct the group in interposing itself between Persephone and the target. She is worried, though- in this smoke, the sorceress might have to get directly adjacent to the target before she can see well enough to cast.

Listen +0.

Round 1

Persephone begins to gag, reducing her effective Strength and Dexterity. The others manage to tough it out, not directly affected by the noxious fumes. No one is able to see even as far as the nose on their face.

Please do not look in the following spoiler block. It contains notes to help me run the monster. [sblock]Living Pyrotechnics spell
Spell Level 2
Caster Level 4
28 hp, AC 11 (50% miss chance in smoke)
Attack +4 for d4+1
DR 10/Magic
SR 14
CR 4
Blindsight (no 50% miss chance)
[/sblock]

Ishmael succeeds in casting Detect Magic, and begins to concentrate on finding the enemy through that spell. Magic is clearly present, but Ishmael has not yet localized it.

When the enemy charges in, Fant and Gorefoot are waiting for it. It appears to be utterly unconcerned with stealth, and identifying the square that it is in is not a problem. Gorefoot swings first, but misses; Fants luck is no better. It strikes at Fant, but doesn't connect.

Persephone

"Is there <cough> only one? Blauck. This is so gross. Like, gag me with a spoon!"

Persephone will dealy action, readying her magic missile if she catches sight of her opponent.

Gorefoot - Gnome Barbarian 1

Gorefoot swings at the creature again and again, wanting to feel the satisfying impact of his blade connecting.

OOC: Gorefoot will continue to power attack the creature, +4 to hit, 1d10+6 to damage.

occ: Basic listen check again, if Ishmael's not sure of the ooze's location. if the creature is in an adjacent square, then Ishmael will attack it. If it is 10 feet away, then he will cast True Strike then step toward it.

"If princess needs to be adjacent to the creature to strike it with magick *cough cough* I am willing to provide an adequate distraction."

'Tanya nae n'quel
Anxious and impatiently Morulas paces up and down just outside the barrier, trying to make out any details of the commotion within.

OoC:

How much does one see from the outside, how much would I be able to help, for example with a bow without endangering the rest of em?
