Seeing that the dragonborn seeks success more than gold, Varak nods and speaks to his comrades, seeking acceptance. "Thirty-five gold a day, and he guides us? We wouldn't expect him to go further than we need him to, just wait for us when we say."

The half-orc stares at the halfling awaiting a response, he even waves his hand in front of Rook's face, back and forth to get his attention. Something's come over Rook and so the guide will walk over to the rest of the group, seeing another half-orc talking with another halfling.
"You with him? Seems like ya are traveling together seeing as how you all got your gear. Anyways, name's Throm, if you're looking to hire me, I want to know a bit more about what you're looking for. My standard rate's 15 gold pieces a day, but if something is outta the ordinary, I need to have some hazard pay" Throm says, looking at you for a response.

Just to help this out, you could likely navigate on your own, but something may occur that he can provide some minor aid on. The cost wouldn't be reimbursed by Miranda though, only your transportation costs will be (lightning rail & horse rentals). [/sblock]

Acknowledging Throm, Vistrathis walks over to the half-orc and greets him.
"Thank you for taking the time to speak with us. We are not necessarily looking for a guide, though some information would be greatly useful to us. I would be willing to pay you for a full days work if you could provide us with a map that details the paths and dangers of the mountains, and perhaps also shows what local flora and fauna are to be seen in the area. I did some research in the library, but was unable to uncover anything of note. Perhaps you, with your more personal experience in the area (who says books are always best, eh?), could give us a better idea of what we are to face in the mountains in our expedition?"
