(Adventure) The Haunted Halls of Stonepike

Aranel

First Post
Aranel had listened quietly to everything, watched the antics of Sturm and grinned. She'd otherwise had an occupied, thoughtful look on her face. Though as the discussion turned to Dragons she seemed to wake up. "There was no evidence to suggest it was indeed a dragon..." she mumbled to herself. "Then again, very little against it too..." Dragons were bad news. And how could one have been hatched in this place without the mother being noticed? Or was there some kind of cult?

She realised she was getting ahead of herself. They didn't know it it was a dragon or not yet. "Hrm...what else could it be? Demon?" she asked herself alloud.

Thurgan asked the fisherman, "D'ye remember which was it was headin'? An' if so, is there another way to get where it went - seein' as we don' fly much."

"Demon or dragon . . . neither sounds too appealin'," Thurgan replied to Aranel.

"Guessin' we can find a boat, 'r make ourselves a raft.

If Sturm finds out he is still mistaken (the depths mean through the caverns, where the water leads, right?) he will growl a lot.

The old Dwarf looks back towards the place where the water enters the Lower Halls (West edge of the Map...) andsays 'Well, Sir,ta be honest, we'uz scared, an thas a fact. We dinna see 'xactlee where it went.We wuz busy running back uppa stairs.' The Fishermen look sheepish and cough a bit, hiding their embarrassment.

The second Dwarf adds 'Far as a boat, goes...the water enters through a tunnel ta the West. Sluggish, but there ain't very much room fer folks'z far as I kin tell, what with the ceiling being close ta the water 'n all. Maybe 3,4 feet a clear tops. Course, nobody 'as ever travelled further'n fifty yards upriver, though, as it gets sort o' dangerous an swift.'

Once Rurik figures out what Sturm's talking about, he stops.

He asks the fishermen: "Izzere another place where 'is water meets the land? If'n not, it coulda 'eaded donn tha way we're goin', an' yer wunt know, right?"

Thurgan listened to the conversation as he walked around the area, looking for anything of interest (stonework, clues, secrets, etc.). He's not intently searching - just walking and scanning . . . more to feel useful than anything else.

The old Dwarf scratches his beard and replies 'The Water leaves this cavern underground, as it is. The exit-channel is about ten feet down. The stream opens up inna air abot half a mile out from Stonepike. It meanders a bit an joins a river thet lies about 3 miles out.'

Sturm grumbles.

"I'm likin' less 'n less 'bout tryin'n go find it... How 'bout come night we jes' clear out this floor, 'n stand at those stairs 'n wait fer this beastie? 'e ain't goin' far upstairs if'n 'e's gotta get through a wall o' us first thing."

Rurik nods in agreement.

"S'n 'ell o' a fine ideer, Sturm. Long as we're fixin' ta search tha entire upper floor ta make sure it inn already up thar. Y'eard 'em say tha beast dun attack til nightfall, we got 'til then."

Aranel had been thinking again. It was probably a task best left to other people but she couldn't always help it. "How about we start from the top and work down then? Examine and search each floor thoroughly and move on. That way, at nightfall the top floors will have been cleared and we'd just have to wait." and if it still managed to kill someone, it either walked through walls or came in through the same doors they had...
She smiled at Rurik. "It was just a summary, I was in fact listening to you."

"Though it does mean every room will have to be searched very thoroughly." Another thought crossed her mind. "How do we know it isn't someone already in here? Perhaps we hould ask if they would mind all the dwarves resting the night in one great room with several of us guarding while several of us searcgh. That way, if it is one of them, we will know, there will be more people to combat it. If it isn't, we will know none of them can come to harm..."

Apart from that if everyone was in one room while they searched...and every room had to be thoroughly searched. A slow grin spread across her lips befopre she hid it and looked at the others. "It would be easier would it not?"
