(Adventure) The Haunted Halls of Stonepike

"I spy a cleft in the ceiling that perhaps the more lithe of us can pass through. Doth any of thee have rope and climbing implements?" whispered Sir Ishmael to his comrades as he closed the gap between himself and the cleft. He used his Divine Inquisition ability to see if anything was inside.

This took some concentration, so he approached slowly. He relied on his companions to protect him from attacks that might come from the crypt rooms.

"Oh, sure," Sturm says, turning to Aranel. "Well, Lady Point, why don' ye climb up there 'n feed yerself'n tha' beastie already?"

Chuckling, he cuts the sarcasm from his voice. "We ain' gonna get much done sendin' some'n alone up in 'at rock, w'ot no big swingin' blades to back 'er up. Either our beast's still lyin' up there, or it's got some way o' burrowin' about 'n it's long gone fer now. I say we just stake camp out near 'is place's front, where we'll catch it comin' this way 'r another."

"I have a better idea," Thurgan said. Thurgan knelt on one knee, lifted his crossbow, and fired a single shot into the cleft at the end of the hall.

Ishmael feels no Evil force up in the cleft.

Thurgan's crossbow bolt flies up int the crack and can be heard ricochetting several times, informing all that the opening must have turns and is far from a straight shot upwards.

By the dwarves' estimation, the Halls above are some ninety feet up.

Rurik had been lost in the scent of the battle until the others arrived at the crypts. Hearing the paladin's question, Rurik placed his pack at the halfling's feet and replied in an equal whisper. "Aye, me friend. I got 'ook, bar, rope, an' 'ammer. Take whate'er ye need - jus' be careful not ta yank on anythin' if'n ye want ter be quietlike."

Rurik looked around, his darkvision searching the walls. "Be willin' ta bet, I would, tha' I could climb tha' cleft least as good as one o' yer lithe ones, too. By the by, could one o' yer cloakers make a hole like tha' in the ceilin'?"

OoC: Out-of-the-normal use of Stonecutting, though I think it is appropriate.

The dwarves, as well as Ishmael, are all pretty sure that the fissure is the result of recent seismic activity.

Climbing isn't impossible, although whoever is doing the spelunking had better be ware, as the space looked to be a bit confined, truth be told...

"So, should we check t'rooms fer cracks like this one?" Thurgan asked. "I'm bettin' the critter may be hidin' in a room recoverin."

Aranel had been looking up at the crevace with a thoughtful expression. Oddly enough, the Dwarf's comment had some merit. Despite being deeply mired in sarcasm.

"I can get up there." She announced, thinking it no tougher than slipping down or up a chimny in a nobles house...
"And I have rope enough to secure and let others follow." She added "That way we can root these problems out by following their own paths. Rather than running around hoping to find just one or two." And besides, getting out of these crypts she'd do just about anything.

The dead made her uneasy.

"With my crossbow..." she added to herself trailing off into a thoughtful mutter as she examine the possible climb.

((I didn't sell one of my MHC...so I have the Old one and the treasure: masterworked Hand crossbow left. I only just remembered I had two ^^; ))

"If thou art making the climb, then I shall attempt to climb after thee. Or mayhap instead, be the one to climb after thee if the situation arises that thou wouldst need aid.

Since I am small of stature and my race is skilled in the roaming of subterranean tunnels, I think I wouldst make a hearty second in line for the exploration of this cleft."
Sir Ishmael holstered Violet.

"Well, I'm still in favor of checkin' the rooms before climbin'. If'n there's a crack there, there mebbe one in one of the room where the critter is recovering. But if'n yer goin', I'm goin' too," Thurgan said.
