[sblock=ooc]We're on Round 3. Sorry, I forgot to title the post that began it apparently. Turtle's gonna want to wait on that roll because if Kaelen or Karananak attempt to aid and fail, that counts as a -1 to the roll for each fail; and as Mezegis pointed out he's already made his check for this round.[/sblock]

Bartering Passage Round 3:

The wilden leans in close to the fidgety captain, the smile disappearing from from his barky face. "Wit uh nod to so many igha fauses, you dtink yuh ould be lukeen ta be makin dee nice nice wit duh like so ose. I an I con be callin on de low fauses mesef. Yuh dbe doin betta tuh be tradin prayas faw favas." Karananak holds out an empty, branchy hand palm up, and waves his other hand over it, blowing between the two. Ashes form into the form of a small winged devil girl that screams at the captain before taking off in a tight circle around the tree man. She lands on the arm of her "summoner" shrieking at the boatman again.

[/sblock][sblock=OOC]Down to the wire on this one. +2 to whoever's Religion check.[sblock=Translation]With a nod to so many higher powers, you'd think you would be looking to make the nice-nice with the likes of us. I call on dark forces myself. You'd be doing better to be trading in prayers for favors.[/sblock][/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]S'aright, it happens. :)

It no one minds, I'll just move on at this point? The only way you can actually get the last failure now is if Kaelen were to make an actual check, but he's just been aiding the whole time, so I didn't think that likely. If no one minds, we'll just call it good and I'll move this on this afternoon. :)[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]I meant to post last night ... but I forgot. Sorry about that. [/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]Moving on is fine by me! Just FYI, I'm off on a trip for a few days, and won't be able to post. I'll check in tonight and maybe tomorrow morning but after that I'll be offline until Sunday.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]Oh, the reactions will still be made. I just meant since you couldn't fail the last roll anymore, I'd skip making anyone roll it and just proceed as if you'd passed the challenge. I'll be updating after dinner, although I'm not sure how much farther we'll get before the weekend is over since I'd hate to put you into a combat situation knowing that Anti is away. We'll see though. :D[/sblock]

having waited politely for diplomacy to take it's course has waited long enough, slamming his fist on the table splintering it a little, "Payment equal fifty gold! Mission status good?!" 354b looks like something ready to rip the captain apart.

The captain jumps as the warforged's hand hits the table. His spoon hops out of his plate and onto the floor. He begins to stammer a response to this when Colgrave cuts in.

"I'm not quite sure how to put this delicately, Captain, but when you speak of your own protection... you realise that your pendants have, at best, only symbolic value, yes? Respectfully - they are quite devoid of any actual power. By contrast, between the skills of myself and my companions, I do believe we can provide you with a good measure of real protection against monsters, storms, and anything else you care to mention. Considering which, I think the offer proposed by my warforged friend here is more than fair."

He looks down at the talismans with some skepticism.

"Yes, well, The Lady, at least'd see me through."

Still, he's progressively looking more nervous about the whole affair, although it's clear that the talk of gold caught his attention even as the warforged frightened him.

Thalin nods as the others speak, studying the good captains responses. Yes, you might be the only one we heard who wouldn’t refuse us outright, and that’s why we came to you first, but as we walked over here, I heard of an E. Vilbob, captain of Mervin’s Magic, who recently lost, how much was it… he says, whirling his hand as he tries to remember, Ah, 16 or so unit’s of his cargo. Now, I don’t fancy trying to talk our passage onto his boat, the price will undoubtedly be much higher, but do not think you are the only recourse we have.

Leaning forward, he meets the captain’s eyes, Speaking plainly, we need the passage and you need the work. As my numerically named companion says, 50gp for what should amount to an hour or two of easy work. Over a month of good food and wine… do we have an accord?

You can see he's starting to look annoyed again, although you think it isn't with you.

"An' who said all tha' now? Cap'n Bob? Cap'n Bob be nothin' but a lilly-livered pirate. Lost 16 units o' cargo indeed. Dumped 'em overboard more'n likely when 'e thought some 'thority might notice. Firs' sign o' inspection he gets tichy. He'd ne'er take ye, whatever anyun said. He'd ne'er risk Ther Mist."

He's looking prideful and you can see the money calling to him more and more.

"Gah!" he squeals as Eve appears. He clutches his chest, breathing heavy. "I'm no' lookin' fer any trouble wit demons," he says carefully, but the greed is still shining in his eyes all the while.

"You should know that regardless of items of divine protection, strength is always needed to protect yourself, for the gods protect those that protect themselves. And we have strength in spades."

"Aye an' tha' be the truth," he says finally. "Me lady wouldna look kindly on me fer cowardice, tha's sure. Fine, an' I'll help ye, but I'll be finishin' me food firs' an' it'll be tha' 50 gold up front, mind. Why don' ye join me. Ye canna'f eaten yet if'n ye've been out huntin' fer ship since ye 'rived."

With that, he gets another spoon and resumes eating his meal.

"So, what ye be wantin' over in tha' wastel'nd anyway?"
