As soon as conditions start to grow dark, Colgrave produces a coin from his pouch and passes a hand over it, causing it to glow with a soft golden radiance. He flicks it to Kaelan, who can use it to light the way ahead.

Kaelan leads the group carefully down the stairs. It's a longer staircase than you would have thought, and when you reach the bottom you feel you are quite a ways underground. There is no lighting in the staircase and you feel that without your lighted coin you would be stumbling completely blindly.

When you reach the bottom of the stairs you are confronted with a hallway. From what you can see it is about 15 feet wide, but with your current light source it is impossible to determine how long it is. The floor tiles of the hallway are painted with several different symbols is in different colors.

GM: The below check allows you one roll. Open as many sblocks as the one roll allows.

[sblock=Perception 24]You see a small hole in the closest red tile. [sblock=Perception 28]You notice a small, quarter-inch gap along the side of the wall and some small holes in the wall at about shoulder height. [sblock=Perception 30]You notice that the closest tile with a purple symbol seems just a touch lower set than the other tiles around it.[/sblock][/sblock][/sblock]

GM: There are special rules that apply to this area. Please read them carefully.

1. Any action that involves something other than making a simple perception or knowledge check must be followed by a post from me. If two PCs take actual actions before I can post, I will not allow you to retcon if you end up doing something other than what you meant to do as a result. I will be checking this thread several times daily in an attempt not to let this slow things down more than absolutely necessary.

2. There are certain types of rolls that may come up that I will roll for you. This is simply in an effort to keep things moving since we will already be slowed by the need for me to post in between each of you.

3. If I ask a particular PC to post an action, please let that PC post. It may affect your options. Again, should you ignore this I will not allow you to retcon if you end up doing something you didn't intend as a result.

4. Keep in mind that Light only lasts 5 minutes. You used part of that getting down the stairs.

I do apologize for the delay this will cause, but I hope that you will all find it enjoyable none-the-less. No one is blocked from seeing what is going on, and there is plenty of space for everyone to be involved if they so choose.
Good luck. :)

Colgrave hangs back as the tiled hallway comes into view. "Just a moment. As much as I enjoy the symbolism of our way being lit by a shining golden coin, it would be nice if we could see a little further in front of our faces. Allow me." He reaches into his backpack and pulls out a Sunrod, tapping it on the wall of the stairwell to light it up. "This should be a bit more like it."

[sblock=OOC]DC 24 Perception is impossible for Colgrave to hit, so I didn't bother making the check. Just sorting out our lighting issues a bit more permanently; I'd forgotten just how limited the Light spell is. The sunrod sheds light 5x further (20 squares) and for 48 times longer (4 hours)... pretty reasonable investment for 4gp imo.[/sblock]

Thalin pauses to look around the hallway, paying particular attention to the multicolored floor tiles. Interesting, he murmers, This red one here has a hole in it. One would think that is significant, but in what way. He continues to look around at the walls and ceiling, but his mind keeps coming back to the hole. Well, no guts, no glory! Boldly he steps forward, onto the first blue tile

GM: No problems, Mez. Colgrave's "action" is one of those that really doesn't need me, unless you wanted a clearer view of the hallway before stepping on it. :p You may, of course, converse as much as you like without my intervention, in case that wasn't clear.

As Colgrave lights up the sunrod you get a much clearer view of the hallway. You can see that it extends as far as your vision currently allows with no sign of doorways or an end.

Thalin steps boldly onto the blue tile and suddenly the floor begins to move beneath him. It isn't incredibly fast, but fast enough to have him struggling for balance. He manages to avoid falling over without too much of a problem though.

GM: Please allow Mezegis to post at this time.

[sblock=Mezegis]Due to your nimbleness, you may choose to end this "movement" on either the blue square, or any square adjacent to it. Please post as promptly as possible with your choice.[/sblock]

[sblock=Mechanics]The floor moved triggering a need for an acrobatics check to maintain balance. The result: 1d20+5=22 Such a high result sparks further action from Mezegis.[/sblock]

Thalin’s eyes scour the area as the floor moves beneath him, looking for some sign of safety. Guys… tell my story if this goes bad. Then, he steps forward.

[sblock=Mechanics] Perception to find a safe spot in column D: 1d20+7=27 Thalin will then step to whichever spot he think is safe. If all seem equally safe, he’ll step on the blue tile, since it worked last time.[/sblock]
