[Adventure] The Paper Chase, Part 2 (Judge: renau1g)

OOC: Perhaps you are not seeing the map correctly, there are only two entrances from the walls (Assuming the enemies will come just from the entrances and not fly over the wall or destroy it). Walls are the grey squares. You could very well just close the other side. The "real" map was much bigger, the distances to cover are much bigger. So yes I made it smaller because otherwise, it wouldn't fit on the screen. If you want I can put grids on the original map, but it will be twice more difficult in that one, since is almost twice as big.
Edit: disregard what is underlined, I got ninjaed by r1!

I don't have problems with big map, I can simply stay in destruction state so anybody attacking adjacent enemies will get +1 to hit. And I can lock ONE with at an will, and small group for a round.

Skirmishers are problem not fit for a runepriest, but all big maps are problem for leaders with only 5 squares range of healing.

That said, we could errect barricades from fallen trees given one day, but that would assume that the camp is not monitored over the day which is unlikely. I say, we lay in wait, crush first group then move to another etc...or split and do the same twice as long :)

Next day we have
a) time to errect some barricades (since surprise doens't play anymore)
b) survivors to interrogate
c) tracks to follow and
d) improved morale of the loggers.

So, let's just wait for it.

Can it be downloaded? I cannot see it in total on one screen

"Ok, well we do have time to fortify this place. But, everyone needs to be working. Derslin, that includes you and every able bodied person here. Your guards are no longer guards. They are now workers. That includes you Happs. You can either help out and stay here, or you can take your chances heading back on your own.

Alexia, you can tell an inspiring tale while helping to move stuff. Something to keep everyone's mind on the work at hand instead of the fight ahead.

Mythra, if I hear one word of complain out of you, a single grumble, I'll set you on fire myself right here and right now. Just keep your mouth shut and a smile on your face. The morale around here is real low and you need to use that big brain of yours to realize that there is a time and place for opening your mouth. Not a word out of you, not a whisper, unless it is constructive. I'm not kidding. And, you need to get your hands dirty here too and help out carrying stuff. While you are at it being helpful, send out your cat to scout."
Grys says, pointing his finger into Mythra's face, a gleam in his eyes that Mythra has never seen before.

[sblock=OOC]Roll all of the insights that you want, Grys is not bluffing. You can tell that he'll kill Mythra in a heartbeat if it means that it'll save the lives of the others.

"Orsik. Is there anything that you can do for the wounded? They'll be able to and want to defend themselves a lot better if they are feeling better.

Kal and Rumbum. Any suggestions on how to fortify this place? The woods to the south here present a lot of cover for any enemies. I suggest that we take down all of the outer tents and store their contents in the large tent here. Anything that we find in them that can be used for cover or a barricade, we keep out in the open. Some or all of the smaller tents can be put in a line near the trees in the south to set up a line and prevent foes from picking us off from the woods.

We need to move the crates and barrels in much closer for a defensive perimeter. We're not going to just stand out here and get shot up like fish in a barrel. If we create a smaller perimeter, we can use ranged attacks from behind the crates to soften up our foes before they even get close. Let's change it from us worrying about their arrows to them worrying about ours.

And, let's not have any openings in the crates. The enemies will eventually figure out a way to get past them, but let's not make it easy for them. They'll probably try to cut their way through the tents to the south. Let them. That gives us only one direction to worry about.

Speaking of setting someone on fire, the tents, especially the main tent, are vulnerable to being set on fire. We need to heavily douse them down with water. Derslin, where is the closest stream to get enough water to use? We'll need to set up a small wall of crates inside the back wall of the main tent and put the heavily wounded in that tent. The main tent is our fall back position. We'll need a path on either side of it to get to the north to fire on anyone who approaches from that direction.

It's likely that if the enemies have only been attacking at night, that they are off resting somewhere at the moment. Even if they see our preparations, it'll take time for them to round themselves up for a counterattack. We need to move quickly.

If they attack again at night, we'll need light sources outside of the perimeter, not inside it at first. Mythra can always light up the middle of the camp once they breach the perimeter.

Derslin, we'll need an inventory of all of the weapons that your group has. Especially ranged weapons. Do you have any oil or other flamable materials?

During any fight, we can put Keke and Martha in locations outside the camp to watch out for any groups trying to sneak around or attack the main tent from the outside.

It's late afternoon. We can get this all done in an hour if everyone pitches in."

[sblock=Keke]
Grys will immediately send Keke invisible up and flying above our camp to watch for enemy snipers or spotters.

renau1g.

Where possible, the tents should be total concealment and the crates/barrels should be stacked high enough, say 3 or 4 feet, to be superior cover.

Also, is Derslin and Galler the same person?

"I can help the wounded, no trouble. I would also add, get your fastest choppers and drop few trees so they create funnels toward the camp. I can help moving them if need be, but I don't think we have time for more then just dropping them and cleaning the leaves. The leaves can help to smother the fire or hide the pits if we can have them.

Now, direct me to the wounded."

You see no hidden enemies [/sblock]

"We don't have too much flammables, we keep Everburning torches instead of lamps, it's much safer, I can't tell you how many times there were fire risks before we decided to switch to the magic ones. As for weapons, we got some crossbows, but we're running low on bolts, the guards were spooked and have been firing at any sound in the woods.

Dreslin and Gallar are the same, he is known as Gallar here, to attempt to keep his identity quiet. Updated map attached.[/sblock]

OOC: MetaVoid, you can't see the whole map because someone's been messing with my map! they turned all upside down! I was planning to make a sort of graph with it, to see how are we going to set the defences, but now I can't. When I feel like it, I'll repair it, if we are going to use it for the combat.

With Grys's threat, Mythra stalks out of the tent without a word. A sound can be heard that has not been heard before on the face of Eberron. It is the sound of Mythra laughing. As if Grys could really harm him!

[sblock=ooc]
Mythra will send Martha out to scout(not because Grys demanded it of course ;)). Remember she has unlimited range because of being a cat.

Stealth =26, Perception= 15
Roll

And I suppose he could use mage hand to move boxes around and stuff for defense. In battle he can smack a summon down in the middle on the monsters to cause some real havoc.

"This space is not particularly defensible," kal'Tarron says. "My preference would be to defend aggressively by hitting the attackers at their camp... I do not imagine you know where that is, though...

"We could raise some barricades if you think it worthwhile, but it will take a lot of trees to make an effective wall around this space - a wall with many doors is no better than no wall, worse even, if we tire ourselves raising it. I vote we wait for the raiders to come to us, and we keep up business as usual here at the camp, because we are sure to be under observation. If they see a wall going up, then they'll be expecting us.

"How about we rearrange the crates a little to cut of their avenues of attack, and then we should just wait for nightfall. If we rest now, then we can stay awake tonight."

"Well, Keke doesn't see anyone out there, but that doesn't mean that someone isn't hidden well. We should take the time out to improve the morale of the men here, to heal the wounded, to water down the tents, and to put crates between the tents to slow up any rush and to have a place for us to fire missiles at the foes. We can keep the entrance to the southeast open so that we can have a front line to fight behind, but luck favors the prepared." Grys responds.

Ok, let me know if this works for people and if there's anything else you want to try? If this is good we'll do a short skill challenge (Maybe a 12 successes before 3 failures...just for KD ;) :angel: ), where someone can try to boost morale, someone tend to the wounded to get more guards back up to fighitng speed, and determine the efficiency of your water efforts and maybe the strength of the barricade [/sblock]
