[Adventure] Trouble in Moonwatch (Judge: THB) - Part II

"Finally, a person of culture and refinement." Sheeva says, quickly brushing off her clothes and slightly re-arranging her hair as she comes back around the corner and approaches the man.

"I apologize for that small lightning spark. Since you are here and were observing the altercation, I assumed that you were an enemy. The allies of my enemies and all that. Well met. My name is Sheeva Dilaterh. To whom do I have the pleasure of meeting?" she asks.

River than look at the man. "My name is River from Cyre, member of house Jorasco, follower of Arawai. What did you meant by your time is limited. Who are you, if it isn't impolite."

"Who am I? Ah, yes I suppose introductions are proper first, I would not want us to kill each other without that at least. I am Jaryn. My time is limited because the Dragon Below suffers no weakness. Only the strongest can lead. I was made the Voice of Khyber by the blood of Larkazh, even as he slew his master before him. You are here by Khyber’s will to challenge me. Should you succeed, you are destined to build on what I have built until you are challenged in turn." the man replies.

OOC: Wow! Really impressive twist!

Pok stays quite, gathering close to River, attempting to hide behind Rumbum. The gnome learned at a young age in the Sivis house, the more civil they are, the more dangerous they are.

"You were once a proud Paladin of the Flames, and today, you tell me you are serving Khyber. How can such a devoted of the light fall into so deep darkness?" asks River. As he asks his questions, River feels his faith to weaken again. So much thing have tested his faith until now. His conviction have faded toward his belief. River feels that might be the last step of this ordeal, and is not convince he can pass through it.

Lan, show me the light, Val, show me the turth, Arawai, preserve the life of my friends.

"Well Sir Jaryn, fighting to the death seems like a really great idea and all, and I thank you for the offer. But, if the Dragon Below actually suffers no weakness and replaces his current champions with those that defeat them, then it would seem that slaying you would merely lead to us eventually slaying ourselves. Personally, I'm not too keen on the idea of doing what Khyber wants me to do." Sheeva pauses.

"On the other hand, you could just walk out of here with us. You have accomplished your mission and defeated Larkazh. There is no need for you to worship Khyber due to a compulsion. You could rejoin the Flame and prove yourself better than what Emesha would ever imagine. You could just choose. Or, we could knock you out and take you back to Emesha. That's not my first preference, but I suspect that Khyber has his claws in you too deep for you to extricate yourself on your own. But like all men controlled by the whims of the gods, you do have a choice. It need not lead to more bloodshed. It just takes the will to overcome Khyber's madness. Can you succeed in a new mission to thwart Khyber's will? Or are you a pawn of the gods, destined to play a minor role in Khyber's entertainment?"

"I haven't fallen into the darkness, I have seen that the darkness is coming. The Gatekeepers barely managed to hold back the daelkyr last time and the darkness will rise once again. We've lingered on like a condemned man who cannot accept the end. The Flame is dead. The good, the moral, the light - these things are no more" he says.

"Don't you understand? I am under no compulsion, I am here for our kinds. How do you think I could draw together orcs, dwarves, men and elves to my side? They've seen the truth. Humanity’s lot in this new world is struggle and death, but not all are suited to such hardship. Those who are strong will inherit the mantle of humanity. Those who cannot embrace the darkness will suffer. My way ends the torment for them. My way is mercy." Jaryn replies.

A shiver climb River's spine as he listen to the Paladin words. He understand the meaning of his word, how he could reach such conclusion. He has himself cross a line he would not have cross before, he had swear to Arawai he would not have cross. He felt his path was going into the same way.

River close his eyes and sigh as if all hope was gone. And then, he see in his mind the light of Lan as he disappeared, the sacrifice of Val. He then open his eyes and fix Jaeryn.

"Me against my family. My family against my clan. My clan against tribe. My tribe against the outside world... is that the kind of world you are offering us? Only the strong prevail?

Don't you see the hole in your path? Khyber suffers no weakness, so he let the leader of your clan get killed to find a stronger leader. But what happened, the former leader was killed by a champion of light. Now, you are following the path of the Dragon Below and you are talking like you knew you will lose the upcoming confrontation against us. Us, helping the Flames. Two follower of the Path of Light have sacrifices themselves to reach you. I, a defender of life is standing before you.

Your cult have become so weak that Khyber need to find his leader among the follower of light, among people with strong moral, within the good people. Khyber show his weakness. He is no leader, he is a coward who can't uphold his conviction through his leader."

Rumbum looks at River as he offers the cup. Pausing before taking it...What is this? He the takes a sip, then takes a huge glup. Ah haa...good yes?

ooc: one less surge for Rumbum and full hp

The orc then blinks repeatedly, trying to comprehend what is going on between his allies and the Jayrn...but fails. Instinctively he grips his axe and shield tightly.

Pok will not be drinking from the chalice as it comes around. Therefore has only 1 surge left instead of 2. Same amount of HP.

*Oh no, I'm not getting trapped in this trick. I don't trust this, I don't trust you.* Pok takes the chalice like everyone else, and pretends to drink from it. He passes it along, wiping his mouth, and making mouth noises. Looking everywhere but at Jaryn, the gnome begins sneaking backwards.

"Those who are the strongest followers of the light have the farthest to fall" he mumbles.

"The strongest will lead, if they happen to come from those falsely serving the light, so be it, if they come from the Aurum, or the followers of the Lords of Dust, or the Dragonmarked, it does not matter. I have no intention of losing in battle to you, but prepare for the inevitable. You will all die at one point as well, some longer than others, but no force will keep you from your end. I was hopeful that those challenging me would have the same desire I do, to save humanity when the rajahs awake, we must be strong enough to survive. Will you do what you must as I have?" Jaryn says resolutely.
