I've been doing this for years. Back in college, I ran a whole campaign based on the eponymous album Lords of the New Church.
I've run Cyberpunk and Traveller adventures based on the Warren Zevon song "Lawyers, Guns and Money." Warren's music has been a big inspiration over the years.
I've done songs/albums by Blue Oyster Cult, Rush, Elton John, Billy Joel, Kate Bush, Rage Against the Machine, Metallica, Queensryche -- hell, I can't remember them all.

A lot of my writing is purely based on alternative and heavy metal songs. Anything such as Metallica, System of a Down, The Crystal Method, Rob Zombie, even video game remixes.
Right now, I'm listening to a kicking song that's begging to be made in to a campaign; it's called Honour by VNV Nation:
Passive fields. January two thousand and twelve. A nation that stands alone.
Cold voices, faces pale, gathered unto their judgement day.
Such words remain unspoken. Such pride remains unbroken.
Just mothers to stand in vain and cry. Tears and medals in the rain.
Shall I recall when justice did prevail? No reason to be found why reason did fail.
The all clear resounding. The way was clear to rebuild this land.
Shall I call on you to guide me well, to see our hopes and dreams fulfilled?
On this day of our ascension.
Stand your ground this is what we are fighting for. For our spirit and laws and ways.
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war. For heaven or hell we shall not wait.

Shall I stand as a cold reminder on this day in this stone chamber?

Synchronisity by the Police is a fantastic campaign all by itself.

My favorite is King of Pain.....each section can be used something like a Nostrodomus quatrain.
