Advice on feats for Paladin/Cleric

Clumsy Bob

First Post
Hi all, shortly I will be starting a new PC that will eventually face the challenges of the city of the spider queen.
I am playing an Aasimar Paladin that will follow the path of Pal1/Clr9/Sacred Exorcist? of Kelemvor
Str15 Dex12 Con16 Int12 Wis19 Cha20

I intend being an active fighter within the group and my first two feats will be power attack and divine might.
However at this moment in time I dont have a clue as to the next feats to take, metamagic? combat?

So I ask you follow board members, what do you suggest?

cleave and great cleave!

why the question mark by sacred exorcist? are you not sure what your total levels will be?

have your ability score raises been calculated into your stats?

(do you know what your starting money/equipment will be?)

Thats correct, dont know what level we will finish.

Nope those are 1st lvl stats, and starting equitment will be whatever my starting gold can afford :-)

what i meant was - what level are you starting at?

if it's 10th (pal1/clr9), 1) you'll have 2 ability raises - i'd suggest Str and Wis

2) you'll start with 49,000 gp (if you go the DMG 'starting equipment chart')

as a worshiper of Kelemvor, i'd take take the Death and Travel domains

if you go with the idea that worshipers like to use their dieties' favorite weapon, take exotic weapon proficiency: bastard sword

since knowledge: the planes isn't a class skill for a paladin or cleric (and is required for the exorcist PrC), you may also want to take the Cosmopolitan feat (out of FR) to make it a class skill

That one looks more like a Cleric than a Paladin, but anyways, since you got the magic level for Clerics (9), you should get Extend Spell and Persistant Spell. Both of which are extremely potent combined with the great buff spells Clerics get (Persistant Divine Favor, Extended Bull's Strength, etc).

Usually I'd give a fighter type Power Attack and Cleave without much thought, both feats are of great use.

Great Cleave? Not really. That's for the Fighters who do not know where to put their feats, you'll have better choices, for sure!

Let's say you will be 10th level (no Sacred Exorcist levels yet), the starting level for that adventure (altho the Aasimar ECL actually puts you at 11th level then). This will leave you with only 4 feats to spend! That means, even Cleave is out.

Power Attack
Divine Might
Extend Spell
Persistant Spell

I hope the Sacred Exorcist doesn't need any other feats as prerequisites! :D

nope, no feat requirements at all

actually Clumsy Bob, Thanee's feat progession suggestions are great! (i never think of persistant spell because i've never had a PC that's used it, or had a chance to use it...)

but your fifth feat must be cleave! :D

If you go the Extend/Persistant Metamagic route, I'd probably raise Wisdom first (a no brainer pretty much) and then Constitution, because the odd numbers are actually quite good with the buff spells, until you can double empower them! :)

I agree with Thanee's feat choices.

There is an Aasimar Paladin going through RttToEE in the game I run, and the amount of Butt-kicking he does with Divine Might is a wonder to see.

Extend and Persitent are great for buffs.
