D&D 5E Advice on replacing druid shapeshifting?

In 4E does the Druid gain shapechanging closer to paragon level?
Not exactly. The 4e PH2 Druid gets wildshape at 1st level, /at-will/, but it's largely cosmetic. Then you choose between typical implement powers like a wizard or other traditional caster might have, or 'Beast Form' powers that represent the abilities of something you turn into. The kinds of abilities that concern you - flight, and other movement modes, tiny size, effective disguise, safe environments, &c - come at higher levels, generally with the use of a daily power.

Actually, in 4e that's prettymuch across the board - problematic stuff is pushed to higher levels. You don't get to turn invisible all day at 3rd level or fly at 5th. Essentials put cracks in that, like the pixie that could always fly (albeit, no higher than 5' off the ground at the end of each turn or it fell).
