Advice on starting D&D 4e campaign -- West Georgia

This weekend I made the decision to get back into D&D after a 20 year hiatus. I've always been a dungeon master, and intend to reclaim that role.

I've ordered the core rule books and will probably get a few more things; e.g. the Forgotten Realms campaign products. I liked the Forgotten Realms setting when I was playing 2e that long ago. I imagine there will be some ramp up time as I get used to the rules, so I have some time to find players.

There is a local store that hosts Encounters; however, they've not had much if any interest so nothing gets scheduled. I didn't get too deep with them about it, because I'd prefer to do the playing at my house anyway.

I'm open to any advice about finding some players and getting something going. When I played way back it was easy, because I already knew everybody I played with. I don't know anyone now that could or would play.

You probably should have posted this in the General Section or 4th Edition.

In any case, since you have a local store that is a starting point. If there is some kind of message board there, post up a notice stating you are interested in running some 4th ed D&D along with a brief idea of what type of style you'd be running. You'll probably get a mix of people.

Here is a good spot too only if there are people in the same area as you looking for a game. I also believe there is a Player Locator on the WotC boards to find people looking for games. You would have to search that out since I don't frequent there much.

Thank you. You may be right about the post location. I chose here, because I'm sort of soliciting for players as well.

I'll have to stop by and see if the store has a bulletin board for the purpose you suggested. When you say "style", what type of things do you recommend mentioning?

I'm excited about the possibility of getting started again, so I hope I can find some like-minded people.

Sell the game. Is is one or many of the following: Role-play heavy, Hack & Slash, Episodic adventuring, full on campaign storyline from 1 to 30, game set in Homebrew/Forgotten Realms/Greyhawk, Underdark/Ocean/Desert theme, etc etc.

That way you to narrow down the responses to people who are interested in your game.

It is too bad Encounters didn't go off in your store, that would be excellent picking grounds for the type of players you want to play with.

Thanks again. I can work with that. You are right about Encounters. I did find out that they had a bulletin board when I went in to buy the Forgotten Realms books. (I know Amazon.com is cheaper, and I buy from there, but I want to support my local store as well.) I'll be putting up a posting there after I learn the new rules.

West Georgia players wanted -- Carrollton, Villa Rica, Douglasville, etc.

Please send me a message or post here if you're a D&D 4e player in the west Georgia area including Carrollton, Villa Rica, Douglasville, Temple, Bremen, etc.

I don't require my players to buy any books. Just bring your own dice.
