AEG downsizing

Interesting update

It seems that the announcement of downsizing is now gone from the AEG website, AND the forums are back up as well (I never personally checked to see if they were gone - so no idea here other than from comments some folks made). There is no sign of that announcement, nor anything even suggesting it might have been there..
When I first tried to check it out it wasn't there as well. Only in the last hour or so did I actually see it on their page. It seems to be there as I write this.

The forums are indeed back up.

I can't believe you people are making a big stink over a book that's a mere two years late. You want a horror story of endless waiting, try Cyberpunk 3rd Edition. That was supposed to be on store shelves Summer 1996. With the first announcement being at Origins in 1995, the suckers waiting for that game have been twiddling their thumbs for more than 10 years.

Want something later than Warlord of the Accordlands? Try Cthulhupunk or Delta Green d20. At least AEG has made an effort to keep it going and alive rather than simply saying "any day now" for the past 2 years.

I hope that AEG will be able to be better financially for the moves they are making now and that remain a major publisher for years to come. There are a lot of other publishers out there that are in far worse shape and refuse to acknowledge it.

Do they just scrap 3 years of paying someone to write it and get no return then?

*snicker* Uh, Most companies I've dealt with don't pay freelancers until the book goes to print.

(WotC being a pleasant exception to this.)

It's sad to hear about this while I'm in the middle of reading Spycraft 2.0. It is, IMO, the best RPG released this year. Nothing else comes close.
True 'dat, Mike! I bought Spycraft 2.0 and Iron Heroes the same day. They are two of the best products I've bought in years. And all of the guys from AEG have been great with any questions I've asked...you couldn't ask for better people or PR!

Hopefully I'll be able to purchase many more books in the Spycraft series from you.

Hah. Heroquest for Runequest was announced as far back as 1981 (and maybe earlier). What it ended up becoming wasn't released until just before D&D 3E was released (Hero Wars, and then later Heroquest when that name became free again). That's about 20 years.

It's also a shame that AEG never put out a spycraft license like d20 or a coherent section 15 of the OGL for Spycraft 2.0, so their ex-employees involved in Spycraft could earn some money via the freelance/pdf route...

(That seems to have worked well, or at least okay for many ex-WOTC people. Well some.)
I don't think they want to loosen their grip on the Spycraft trademark.

Of course, they could always follow Green Ronin and their M&M Superlink trademark use license.
