AEG Loses Stargate SG-1!!!

As much as I know some people are going to disagree strongly, I hope that SJ Games gets it and does it with the same quality as Transhuman Space.

ME, some people. Just never a GURPs fan.

My guess is the most likely is Eden, de to previous comments, and i think they would do fine. i am not a unisystem fan but they have proven themselves to be able to do great, IMO, "capture the feel of the show" games from what I have seen with examples like Buffy and Angel.

if i had my 'druthers, it would be done using WW new WoD, with a few tweaks for genre.

but thats unlikely, i think.

Either way, we will know soooner or maybe later.

In short, Eden Games is a terrible company, and no one should buy their products.
Also in short; I don't care about the company, I care about the products.

I've heard nothing but good about the Buffy and Angel lines.

isn't powered by spycraft an OGL thing.
wouldn't it be possible for a new company with the lisence to just pick up where AEG left off and keep the system and all previous material usable.

they could but they won't. They don't want to build off of someone elses work and have books from another company be reuquired. The main book is what will make them the most money and they'll want people to buy their books not AEG's.

Neither am I- but I, and many others, find that GURPS supplements are so well written and information packed that I buy them anyways. I know so little of the GURPS rules that I convert ideas, not stats. But I still want to see them get the SG licence because I expect that quality from them. As for Eden, I looked through AFMBE and Buffy and neither interested me in the least (and I like Buffy and Angel).

Ditto.

But GURPS Stargate SG1 is a whole different affair than, say, GURPS Riverworld*...and I don't really think Steve Jackson Games wants all the headaches that go with a major license.

* Now, GURPS Wold Newton...that, I would literally kill for....

Does Eden own any of the Firefly rights? I'm curious why they would contact them and ask them to remove it.

They don't, but they've dealings with Fox. George probably told them to take it down because it was an IP violation, and he didn't want to see them hit by Fox. Eden's setting stuff was Firefly with the serial numbers filed off, ie. no IP violations, the QAGS stuff is a big ol' pile of IP infringement. It was pretty dumb on the part of the QAGS guys to publically announce it, as they were setting themselves up to get hammered by Fox. That said, George has tendency to skirt around details and then get openly frustrated because people misunderstand his vagueries.

For the record, the official RPG will be published by Margaret Weis Productions, Ltd later this year, but it's based on the 'Serenity' property, not the TV series. Just to head off speculation, it's already been announced that it will not be d20/OGL.

That out of the way. It's sucks that AEG chose not to renew their licence, as their stuff was good, really good, Since Stargate's been only building in popularity, the deal was probably unadventageous to AEG for them to continue with it. (Probably the price tag.) I hope that whomever, if anyone, that picks up the licence has the best of luck with the licence, as they've got big shoes to fill.

??? ???

AEG state that Sony chose not to renew their license.

MGM told Eden why AEG chose not to renew the license.

Which is true?

??? ???

Best guess is they both are. Sony probably asked for more money than AEG was willing to pay. From AEG's pov, Sony chose not to renew (at AEG's price), and from Sony's pov AEG chose not to renew (at Sony's price).
