A few African cultures are matrilineal or were to some extent.

I think Dahomey was famous for it's female royal guard or army.

I think broadly speaking there's 4 main cultural groups in Africa kinda like 3 in Europe (Germanic, Romance, Slavic). Lots of smaller ones.

5 language families (Afroasiatic, Niger-Congo, Nillo-Saharan, Khoisan, Austronesian) but around d 10 cultural areas with many smaller ethnicities within that. Egyptian is an Afroasiatic language and its modern form still spoken by the Copts NiRenkime)

there are some interesting cultural artefacts that could be incorporated In game like the Dahomey warriors, another is the Sanakuya or Joking Relationship between clans/groups, where people from different clans call each other as 'cousins' and then jokingly insult each other as a way to criticise without causing offence. - some even claim its the origin of the "American Dis Battle"
