AFTER the experience and treasure: Your PCs' goals?

Driddle

First Post
What are the general goals of the PCs in your campaigns about now? After they've attained the experience levels and goodies in the random monster treasure troves, what do they set their sights on?

-- Landowners, managing a castle or kingdom.
-- More power, but without a particular application in mind.
-- Retirement as an NPC, someone wise and worldly to mentor others.
-- The personal vendetta continues against a great foe.
-- Stuff. Lots and lots of stuff. Magic stuff.

Just a few examples, of course. What's at play in your campaign?

And do your PCs ultimately rise in power ABOVE the local kings and potentates, or do the authority figures always gain experience in scale with the heroes?

One of the characters comes from a barbaric background. His people hail from the Unapproachable East and were driven out by the Rashemai. They lived peacefully among the mountains for a while until the coming of evil and returned to their demon worshipping ways. Those that didn't, were sold to the drow for magic and money.

Now he's just about killed all of the renegades from his tribe, and wants to go free his people. While he's at it, he's slowly been empowering his sword, "White Woe", with the Item Familiar Feat.

Another player is a Paladin-Fighter. His whole town, "Thar's End", was destoryed by a transmutter whose working on building the perfect creature. Now he seeks to hunt him down, while gaining a full set of items from Materia Magica.

Others are pretty much just in it for the loot and will go on until they die.
