I am pretty sure we are supposed to be viewing this from Teen's POV, as he feels more like the protagonist to me, than any of the others. I don't think we are supposed to feel empathy or sympathy for Agatha, or at least not yet.
So far teen has been the absolute least interesting character, maybe thats intentional but defintely not a compelling PoV.

I initially thought Mrs Hart/Sharon might have been audience surrogate, but she dead (heh, is that prophetic?)

Outside of Agatha and Rio, Lilia seems to have an interesting back story...

As with so many of the Disney+ MCU shows, and most of the films lately, it seems like I am supposed to care because of the meta-narrative rather than because of the characters in the show I am actually watching.

I'm a comics nerd. Note the large X-men logo tattooed on my shoulder. I'm a sucker for this stuff. But I still need basic story elements. All the pieces are there for this show to be great; it has a fantastic cast (well, except for Teen; they're lame), a cool aesthetic, and the Witch's Road is a great concept. Just give me a reason to care about these characters!

The reasons are there. Each witch was deprived of their power in various nefarious ways, and now they want to reclaim it. I care about them. Last week's Music Spell vs Demon Curse was very touching.

It's a 'you' problem.

It's not even three hours into a TV show. You've been reading comics for decades. If I picked up a comic book series, I'd likely not care about any characters for many, many, many, issues.

I think the show rests entirely on how interested you are in watching what Agatha's plan here is. So, I never was even looking to care about her groupies, just curious if they would just be sacrificial lambs, I was merely hoping they would be entertaining on the way.

But... they don't say clever things, just kind of mope around OR run around like people in their first escape room, and they aren't even selling the concept of being witches, when they are relying on the Boy Wonder to provide all the magical resources and suggestions.

Most importantly, you have a limited amount of dialog lines you can fit into an episode, and AAA is constantly choosing to have the characters go 'oh hey potion witch you should maybe make a potion?' 'oh yeah, I am a potion witch, I can make potions', which is filler lines because you get paid by the word, rather than anything interesting/funny/poignant/dramatic/setup/whatever.
