Spoilers Agatha All Along discussion

Why on earth would you pitch correct Freddie Mercury (the man had impeccable timing and pitch already)
I hate pitch correction in general. The "flaws" are part of what makes art interesting. Art is only interesting to me if it seems like something only that artist could have made.

Getting back to Agatha All Along, I feel like thus far this series is missing a reason for me to really invest in the protagonist at an emotional level. Kathryn Hahn is an amazing actor and is killing it, as usual, so it's a writing problem. I understand Agatha's want easily enough - get her powers back - but what is her need, and what is the tension between her want and need? We've had hints, but until I get a real reason to care about her, I can never be more than lukewarm about the series.

I am pretty sure we are supposed to be viewing this from Teen's POV, as he feels more like the protagonist to me, than any of the others. I don't think we are supposed to feel empathy or sympathy for Agatha, or at least not yet.

He's such a blank slate so far though that I can't get on his level either. I could just as easily see him being the damsel in distress or suddenly revealing himself as the moustache-twirling villain.

I'm invested in Agatha. She was worried the boy would die, which shows she is more complex than her facade would indicate. I also liked how she tricked 'THE Green Witch' into telling her the boy was not her son.

Though I should note that what that means could be a number of different things.

I think her need is family/community, and the show is hinting at this in multiple ways.

The most blatant is the witch's road, where she literally needs a coven to enter it and needs witches of various talents to find people. I bet by the end of the series she'll come to actually like them instead of viewing them as tools.

She also has two broken relationships that need fixing, one with her lost son who she wants to find and protect as when she thinks Teen might be dying. There's also the relationship with "Rio" where they clearly both care about each other but have a lot of baggage in the way that makes it hard to reunite.

Sure. These are all possibilities, but that’s not enough for me to really care about her.
