Age of Worms: Could I get an overview?

I'm not looking for spoilers or anything. I would just like to get an brief outline what the storyline is going to be about. It looks interesting, and I want to see what's going on with it.

Download Age of Worms Overload from Paizo's site - it's got the info you're looking for, with a synopsis of each adventure.

My first hand experience is that the dungeons in AoW are party killers. I know, I've seen it kill two of my groups. The story is excellent and well thought out (except for the second module which is full of problems), but the encounters are just plain deadly.

I had one player die so far. If I have one per magazine, then that means it has the correct "deadly" factor for me.

Peace and smiles :)

We currently have no plans to compile Age of Worms into a hardcover book. If the Shackled City hardcover and the Dragon Compendium do well, though, chances are good that there will be a hardcover Age of Worms book somewhere down the line. The absolute earliest I'd expect such a book to be out, though, would be the middle of 2007, so that's a kinda long wait.

In any event, the Age of Worms Overload's the best place to get a detailed description of the campaign.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I was looking over your overview in the section about adapting to the Realms, and I noticed that it starts out in Daggerford. My first campaign was set in Daggerford, so there's a certain appeal there. I may have to check it out.

I had to break down and buy up some back issues and get a sub for this thing.

So far I'm really enjoying it. I also purchased the Shackled City HC, but if I can get a group together, I'll go through the AoW FIRST ... if I spent a year playing Shackled City I'm sure I'd lose an issue of AoW or one of the poster maps or whatever.

One of the things I really like about AoW is that it's set right smack dab in the middle of Greyhawk. I was never much of a Greyhawk enthusiast, but I decided to leave AoW "where it was" when I started to look into it ... the Greyhawk: The Adventure Begins book/box is available for 5.00 as a PDF, which I decided to buy. Includes a map of the Free City of Greyhawk, some maps of surrounding areas, and a nice map that includes Diamond Lake and Blackwall Keep right on it. It's sort of interesting to read up on the background of the areas above and beyond what's included in the adventures.

I did this with Verbobonc and Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil, as well, which added some interesting elements to the game, by putting some detailed background information into the game that wasn't critical, but fun none-the-less.

Had two die last night! Was only one hit away from a TPK...

1) The Brown Mold

Had a PC die in the brown mold. Really should not have been deadly at all but the 3d6 dmaage took him down to unconsciousness and the 3 others in the party trying to save him ALL rolled 1s.

By the time they dragged each other out - the halfling rogue was dead. Non-lethal or not, the continued damage in the brown mold was enough to kill him.

2) The Swarm and the Mad Slasher

This one is one of the killer encounters in the mod if you don't get smart and run. (Even then - the slasher is fast enough to catch you).

My wife - who is playing in her first D&D campaign was the only smart one. She ran. The rest of the PCs, 4 veteran players of 25 years plus experience, stayed and fought. By the end - they had all gone down and although the swarm was dead and the slasher wounded, it was up to my wife to slay the slasher and save the party.

One cleric died after the swarm was on him and he got hit by a pint of oil poured over him to kill the swarm. (Swarm bites, acid, on fire...ok. So much for raise dead!)

It's a great module and I highly recommend it. Intelligence avoids the worst of it - though nothing will save a party when the dice become cursed.
