Age of Worms H/C - unlikely :(

With only the Shackled City AP to use as a yard stick, do you have a figures to back this statement up? Did Shackled City bomb?

Yeah, seriously are there numbers to back this up because time and time again I've heard request for the AOW hardcover from people who have the full run in the magazine. Me, I subscribed to Dungeon during the AOW and have all of the issues and I'm also willing to pay for an AOW hardcover.

That's not what Merric is on about. In fact it's the other way around; SCAP was such a success that people have been saying the don't buy the AP issues of Dungeon because they are waiting for the AoW hardback, because they know it will be very good.

There is anecdotal evidence in this thread to back this idea up; posters are saying that they have been holding out on getting the issues because they were waiting for the AoW hardback. Because SC was a hit.

Indeed. When the SC was coming out, we had no idea that it'd be followed by the SC hardcover. It was a nice bonus.

However, it raised the expectations that there would be an AOW hardcover. Now, I may be atypical, but I find *most* of the value of the Dungeon magazine lies in the AP adventures. The other adventures may or may not be of use to me, but - as someone who is interested in the AP (and that fits the profile of anyone waiting for the AOW hardcover) - mostly they're of secondary value.

Let's face it: I've been running the Age of Worms. We're about to start the final issue in a couple of weeks. We've been doing this for over 18 months. There's no need to use the other adventures in the magazine because the AP provides all the adventures we need.

A gaming group could quite happily just run one AP after another. So, if they all come out in hardcover, why bother getting Dungeon?

Cheers!

Merric,

In the other hand, comic book publishers have been milking money from monthly magazines compilations for years. They reach customers like me who don't buy magazines (comics or gaming ones) but purchase compilations. Even better, I know quite a few that buy monthly titles and a few compilations of their favorite stories latter. Hardbacks reach a different market and, thus, only increase Paizo profits from their efforts.

Oh, indeed. I quite accept that making HCs could actually be a really good move for Paizo.

However, I still _feel_ it's a mistake. :)

Cheers!

I only ask for a smoke signal or something before the assault on Renton begins. Since that's where I happen to live, for good or for ill...

Haven't you seen it by now? Look, we set most of Victoria (Australia) on fire for the past few months. You should have seen the smoke by now...

One Vogon Constructor Fleet should be coming any day now. :)

Cheers!

I remain in my conviction that doing compilation hardcovers of recent adventures is a bad idea for Paizo. It makes people stop buying the magazine to get the hardcover.

If Paizo wants to publish an original AP in hardcover - fantastic. But publishing first in Dungeon and then in hardcover? The message is: "Don't bother buying the magazine, you can get it later".

As with anything, it comes down to will the money lost on subscriptions be more or less than the money made by the compilation. I'd assume so of course.

They've gotten better with it, but there was a lot of slow-down with the magazine related stuff around the time Shackled City HC was being made. I doubt it matters now since they're making their own books anyway.

With the prospect of an AoW hardcover looking less likely all the time, I'm looking at buying all the back issues of Dungeon that have the AoW AP in them (#124-#135). The only one I can't seem to find available outside of Paizo is #124, the first issue of the AP. Does anyone have a copy (with the map) that they are willing to sell me?

I realise that I could buy it through Paizo but I refuse to do so when it will cost me $8 for the magazine and $15 in shipping charges!

I'd still love to see a hardcover, regardless though.
