Age of Worms H/C - unlikely :(

I wonder if a PDF only version would be acceptable to WotC.

that would solve this issue:

It would solve that issue, yes, but it wouldn't address my unhealthy love of sexy hardcovers ;)

Prince,

Fine I'll do Renton instead along with those listed targets.

*is not going to argue with people that he can't agree with*

James, just how cool we talking here? Dead gods cool? Modron's March? Or even cooler than that?

I remain in my conviction that doing compilation hardcovers of recent adventures is a bad idea for Paizo. It makes people stop buying the magazine to get the hardcover.

If Paizo wants to publish an original AP in hardcover - fantastic. But publishing first in Dungeon and then in hardcover? The message is: "Don't bother buying the magazine, you can get it later".

Ah but this is the best yet. Make it look like you're NOT going to make one, sell back issues at full cover price to the people who dropped their subs (makeing advertizers more happy too), and then release on anyway and sell it again.

It works for George Lucas :-)

(no, I'm not really accusing Paizo of doing this. Just joking)

Honestly,

I don't know that this is really that much of a factor. Roleplayers tend to be more heavily weighted in the early adopter zone of the marketing spectrum. Producing the hardcover is more like a second kick at the can because more often than not they'll sell the same thing to the same person twice.

In regards to WotC's hesitance to allow the AoW HC to go forward "for the moment" it's likely because they are really testing the waters this year. It has been a long held mantra in the industry that modules don't make money. I've never agreed with this (but I won't go into why here) and a number of products, the AP's included, have shown that this is not necessarily true. Still, when you're dealing with a company as large as WotC (in regards to their industry at least) risk is always something to be controlled if not avoided.

I "suspect" that with their large push into adventure production this year they want to keep the market held in hand as much as they can. One of two things will happen, if sales for adventures are good WotC will loosen up and allow Paizo to go ahead or if sales are bad they'll tell Paizo to go ahead because they see no profit in it. Either way we will see an AoW HC.

The D20 market has reached maturity in its product cycle. Because it has been the majority the RPG market for so long this has effected the entire industry very severely and will continue to do so. WotC must know this and they're realizing that they can't rely on third parties to carry their brand any longer (something that modules do).

I think we'll find the RPG market very subdued until the next big innovation comes along. I can almost guarantee that won't be 4th Edition (but that's a conversation for another thread). I wish I knew what it was but I'm certainly looking forward to it.

Jack.

I see your point but I think that the big thing with the hardcovers is the supplemental material. As you know there is some material that has to get chopped or gets moved over to Dragon etc. The hardcover can have all of the supplemental information and more. Plus, there are some people who just don't subscribe to Paizo's magazines for whatever reason and the hardcover gives them an opportunity to get content they want without subscribing.

I subscribe to both Dungeon and Dragon but would happily buy an AOW hardcover.

With only the Shackled City AP to use as a yard stick, do you have a figures to back this statement up? Did Shackled City bomb?

I can see the headlines: "Renton, Kent, Auburn Bombed! Massive Cloud of Methaphetamine Smoke Blows South, Tacoma, Lakewood and Spanaway Rejoices, Stays Up for a Whole Week."

Thank you! I'll be here all month!
