Ah, the joys of medical procedures

Hang in there. I sympathize. I've had an awful lot of medical procedures myself in the past 3 years; just this morning I had a thyroid biopsy. Hopefully this monitoring will lead to a more satisfactory treatment for you, Ghostwind, and you'll be feeling better soon. Keep us updated. We're all listening and sending you healing vibes. :)

Steve,

Prayers and good thoughts going your way. I didn't make it very public, but I had to go to the doctor myself these past two weeks for chest pains and other symptoms, and was diagnosed with GERD. Fortunately, they caught it in time, and put me on Protonix for it, and I've been doing progressively better. My heart was given a clean bill of health just yesterday, so I'm a bit thankful.

I hope your tract heals well, and that you can get stronger and better.

GERD was the initial diagnosis when I was in the hospital last month. They gave me Nexium but it didn't seem to help so last week I was switched to Asiphex. Apparently it helped because the ulcers have healed. Now if they can just figure out what the cause of all of the pain is. :(

Well, it sounds like you've at least got diligent doctors on the road to helping you out. The joys of medical procedures are far superior to the joys of going without medical procedures when you need them :)

Agreed Umbran. I put this off for months because of how expensive it was going to be (up to about 35k now before insurance pays an unknown amount), but in the long run it's better to have it treated than continue to go through the pain I was enduring.

When my reflux flares up I usually get chest pain, it usually take a week or so to settle back down and the chest pains to go away. With the severity of what you have experienced, it may be that it will take longer to get back to some level of normal.

Thanks everyone. Having another very rough day today. Stupid thing flared up about an hour ago, much to my dislike. Time for more pills I guess. :(

The doctor's office called today with some news about the procedures. They are adding more medications for me to take (something called Zegrid?), which is supposed to help with the pain in the evening. The results of the biopsies are back and they are benign as far as cancer goes, but there is abnormal swelling which the doctor will talk to me about when I see him on the 12th. So I guess it's good news in a way. I wish I knew a little more. His nurse wasn't very helpful in explaining things so I'm a bit more more nervous than I was before. :(
