Ah, the joys of medical procedures

They forgot Ulcerative Colitis, which is sometimes lumped with IBD/IBS. Either way, don't expect the steroids and super aspirin type drugs to be any fun. Don't expect standard pain meds to help with intestinal pain, the only thing they do is make you so out of it that you care less about the pain. Alcohol, hard alcohol, maybe just wine, can help. Try a shot or two of something other than whiskey.

The 5 hour delay on your reaction to the pizza definitely indicates it is your colon, not your S. I. the ulcers in your stomach were probably a separate issue that popped up at teh same time. Over 90% of stomach ulcers are caused by a bacterial (or is it viral) infection, so now most stomach ulcers are now cureable.

Also stay away from soda and caffeine. As for food try soups for a few days, see if that improves anything. By soups I mean tomato soup and chicken soup and any others you like that are mostly broth, very little to nothing of anything else. Also make sure you are drinking 8 glasses of simple water EVERY day. This is probably more important that you realize.

All my advice is based on experience. IE I have been there and done that. People vary, so there is no assurances that what helped me will help you.

Good luck, I hope you keep your stomach parts.

Oh, steroids!! Steroids are the most horrible drugs ever invented! They're worse than the illness they're supposed to treat, in my experience. If you're taking steroids it's no wonder you're feeling awful, Ghostwind! My sympathy just ratcheted up a notch.

He didn't mention steroids that I caught, and I am not familiar with the various names of them, just prednisone. I just said that because of what I think he has. So if I am right he is going to be taking prednisone, or similiar steroid, and Azulfadine, or similiar super aspirin.

Plus the fact that he is not strongly responding, in a positive way, to the drugs they have been giving him is not a good sign.

No steroids yet. Past history is my body responds to steroids <whiney> very well. :)

Seriously, no steroids on the list yet. I'll mention what you said on my next appointment, Treebore.

I'm only a med tech, but I'll just point out that for serious physical problems, medication often takes a couple of weeks to kick in fully due to the half-life of most hormones and medications. Frex, I just got diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (an auto-immune disease, my immune system is killing my thyroid) and was put on levothyroxine (a steroid/synthetic version of thyroxine). My body didn't respond for a couple of weeks, so give the meds a little time.

Hopefully you're felling a bit better, but my thoughts are with you anyway!

Good, but start the dietary changes now. If they are going to help, and you are strict about it, you should feel/notice improvement in about 48 hours. If you aren't going to be strict about it, don't even try it. One cheat is enough to screw it up.

Just to be clearer, when your doing the soups don't eat anything else. No Milk either. Staying away from all breads and pasta's (most have wheat in them) is a good idea. If the soups have pasta in them, avoid eating them. Stay away from beef and pork for a few days as well. Strangely, vegetables such as peas, carrots, tomato's, green beans, and broccoli didn't bother me, but other people I talked to with the same problems said they did.

Your going to need to do a lot of experimentation. The best way is to go down the the simplest foods, such as broth type soups and drinking water. Then add one thing to your diet at a time. If after 48 hours you do not have a reaction, it is probably safe for your particular digestive tract.

Another thing about the alcohol, it only helped in moderation. Drinking excessively will aggravate it for some reason. Besides, your on a pain killer, so limiting yourself to one shot is a double good idea.

As for your body responding to steroids very well, I wasn't referring to adding body weight easily. The "condition" has to respond well. If you put on weight well with steroids prepare yourself to look like the pillsbury dough boy before it is all over. I was on them for two years and swelled up like a friggin balloon. Not fun at all.

Anyways, I hope whatever you have is treatable, best yet, cureable. Be good.
