AI Creates New D&D Monsters

This has been doing the rounds recently - Janelle Shane, a scientist who works with artificial intelligence, programmed a neural network to produce new D&D monsters based on a list of over 2,000 creatures from an old Monster Manual. welcome to the Spectral Slug, Desert Beeple, Purple Fang Dragon, and many more!

You can view the whole list here.

I'm a fan of the Fumble Unicorn, Burglestar, Spider Brain Horse, and the Chromatic Wolf.

Shane previously used the same AI to produce 265 spell names, which included such classics as barking sphere, hold mouse, and vicious markers and a second experiment which produced an even better set.

She is now crowdsourcing a data set to do the same for character names.

Mommy, Greater

We're all doomed.
Don’t worry too much- the Greater Mommy will protect you from everything...including herself. Basically, you die of boredom as she prevents you from adventuring by whatever means necessary.. This includes guilting you out of going, setting up blind dates, or a classic ever-expanding “honey do” list.

BTW, y’all, if you didn’t follow the links to see the spells, do so! Here’s a sampling:

Dood to Stone
Chorus of the dave
Song of the darn
Ward of Snade the Pood Beast
Primal Rear
Curse Clam

These are the spells you didn’t know you needed in your life!

That spell list gives you a 2-fer, sometimes, though.

Look at “Ward of Snade the Pood Beast”. Clearly, it’s an Abjuration spell. Presumably crafted by Snade. Snade is a- no, “THE”- Pood Beast.

Is Snade the only/last/first of his/her/its kind? Linguistically unclear.

Good? Bad? Snade’s the Pood Beast with the Ward.

Maybe it's a minor typo, and the spell is intended to Ward Off Snade the Pood Beast.

My favourite part is that one of the monsters (the dog, goblin) is a real Pathfinder monster.

I also love the pigaloth and memball.
You can also imagine the golf being a real monster with an odd pronunciation (soft g) that was a gygaxian beast based on a silly looking plastic toy.
