Hey all,

When using the Aid Another special attack action, do normal combat modifiers apply to the roll to hit AC 10? Specifically, cover penalties, flanking bonuses, and the like? The SRD doesn't seem to say....

Thanks!

It's an attack roll. When you make an attack roll you apply the modifiers for the weapon you are using. Those modifiers include cover, flanking and so forth.

I'd say modifiers generic to an attack - BAB, Str, enhancement, Weapon Focus, Bless, non-proficiency, etc - would all apply. But modifiers specific to a target - Bane weapon, flanking bonus, higher ground modifier, etc - would not. Cover provides a bonus to the target's AC, but you are not attempting to beat the target's AC; you are attempting to beat AC 10.

Basically, you're not making an actual attack against that creature; you're making an abstract attack roll (that has no real attack associated with it) against a generic DC. So modifiers that are specific to a creature aren't relevant.
