Alarming Character Combination

Thanks guys - now I don't feel so bad ... :p

The alarming combination is the number of attacks a dervish gets in conjunction with a blessed weapon (he's already using oil of bless weapon on his scimitars). At 8th level, he gets 2 attacks with one scimitar, another attack with his second scimitar, a bite, and of course, he purchased a tail blade. 5 Attacks on the move. Three of those attacks (with Improved Critical) have an automatic critical with bless weapon on a 15+ ... odds are he'll get one per round.

Ah well. I'll live with it. I threw 3 chaos beasts at them last night ... that was fun.

We have a similar build in our party- something like Fighter/Swashbuckler/Dervish/Tempest. I do not remember all the details, but the lots of attacks with two scimitars sounds familiar! :) It is really effective in straight-up melee fights- especially with lots of mooks to run around and hit- but remember that he spent a lot of effort to be really effective in that combat scenerio. If you change the environment a bit, it balances quite a bit. For instance, what if he faces non-crittable opponents? Or how about a wide battlefield where he cannot get to all the opponents during the dervish dances? Terrain changes are a pain for these types of builds (although he might get around that with the dragon wings, I guess... heh). Anyway, running up against an army of mooks this character will be unstoppable. But, it should be balanced overall as long as that is not the only combat encounters you are running as DM.

The combination is really powerful, and the only thing that shocks me is blessed is only a +1 effect. Is this right? Has it been errata'd or changed in any later books?

The blessed enchantment works like bless weapon, right? I'm fairly certain that it doesn't work with any other crit-enhancing abilities. Improved critical certainly seems like a crit-enhancing ability to me.

Actually, Bless Weapon says:

... In addition, all critical hit rolls against evil foes are automatically successful, so every threat is a critical hit. This last effect does not apply to any weapon that already has a magical effect related to critical hits, such as a keen weapon or a vorpal sword.

It doesn't work with any other crit-enhancing abilities on the weapon, I believe.

But who are those paladins that create oil of bless weapon or craft weapons for the character to use?
It doesn't seems that these feats are really a priority for holy fighters :D

Good point.
