Alchohol During A D&D Game?

Pot and nitrous oxide, as drugs go, are more suited to games like Paranoia and Toon, if you have a drug of choice to modify your gaming experience.

Not that I'm advocating either in general. That would be taking a political stand on an apolitical board.
I played a Happiness Officer in a Paranoia game during a period when I was heavily medicated and my psychiatrist was liberally handing out free samples: I was very "in character" handing out my postmodern rum rations. It was just before serizone (sp?) was banned in Canada and my psychiatrist had obviously been given advanced warning and was dumping the stuff on people. Marijuana, vodka and serizone make for a deadly gaming mix.

Man, I’ve always thought it would be a great idea to slip my players some bad LSD a few hours before a Call of Cthulhu game. If I could time it just right, I could hit them with the eerie music and hellish mindbending descriptions just as the drug began to take hold. They could actually experience what its like to fail a sanity check! Talk about an immersive gaming experience!

I am, of course, joking.

I would game without dice before I gamed without beer.

Oh who am I kidding...

I would game without oxygen before I gamed without beer.

I'm noticing a pattern to responses to this kind of thread.

Generic Response to "Is <Blank> Okay?"

[Insert : Observation that reasonable behavior with regards to <Blank> doesn't cause problems]
[Insert : Statement that excess <Blank> can cause problems]
[Insert : Optional amusing personal story]
[Insert : Conclusion that if people behave like adults things will be fine]

I'm Subscribing to this thread!

On topic: I don't ban drinking, or even pot smoking, at my game. I don't ban irresponsible behavior at games I host or DM.

I also don't invite players who aren't there to game, or for whose safety I would worry while they travelled home. If you're able and eager to play, and you don't compromise either trait in anyone else, fine, do as thou wilt.

Dave's not here, man.

Also, I have only been to one game where one guy was a little tipsy from a couple of beers. It was odd. Otherwise, no, I don't see folks drinking at games. Either the timing is wrong (my games start 11am on Sunday) or the game is too short and folks would be driving home tipsy, which isn't good.

I don't see drinking in my games, although I did have one player who would periodically suggest we all play drunk. As in, wasted. Needless to say, he got withering stares as his response, and it hasn't happened.

Demiurge out.

Beer usually have 4-6% of alchohol, it's near nothing. Of course you can have two or three.
It's mostly Americans on this thread. Their beer is 3% -- I've never understood this about their culture. Maybe they just really like urinating.
