Alchohol During A D&D Game?

It's mostly Americans on this thread. Their beer is 3% -- I've never understood this about their culture. Maybe they just really like urinating.

It's baffled me as well.

I asked a freind about it in Seattle and he claimed to prefer American beer because he likes to just "pop them open and chug"

I was like "Um....okay" :\

I like beer, I like gaming... Combining the two is only natural... I actually live right near an amazing liqour store that has beer from all over the world. I got a couple bottles of proper Trappist beer a couple weeks ago which was pretty cool. I only buy about a six pack a week so when I do I like to make it somthing different. No one in the group ever drinks enough to cause a problem.

Generally no...I find that alcohol and gaming don't really mix for me. I've played in a variety of groups that downright prohibited alcohol. The DM of the last group I played in had a 5 year old son, and didn't want a bunch of guys drinking while he was around. Right now, one of the players introduced his 13 year old son to our game (a surprisingly good gamer may I add!), so alcohol would probably be inappropriate

he couldn't drink at the table (since it was being held on university premises)
Our university role-playing group used to meet in the student union bar, at the heart of the university site.

Other people's cultures are just weird sometimes. :)

I didn't drink while gaming in those days, because my fellow gamers were not people I particularly wanted to socialise with. I was just there for the game.

Nowadays, if I go round to my friends house we'll drink a bottle of wine or two between the group. If it happens to be a gaming night, then we'll drink while playing D&D. If we are round for a barbeque or something, we'll drink as part of that. If we are driving, going on to play football later etc. then we won't drink.

Its not about the alcohol, its about seeing your friends and having fun.

I wouldn't play with anyone who wanted to get drunk at the table, but Hong's crew would drink one or two in the course of a session.

A few Victoria Bitters on his part made it easier for us to beat Hong. ;)

I don't even drink wine, and I'm horrified. ;)

Of course, you're probably close to the age my parents were when they drank cask wine (or "goon" as it's sometimes called in Sydney), so maybe in twenty years you'll be a wine snob like my father.

Eeeeeeeew, how vulgar.

How on Earth can you hope to collaborate creatively upon themes of high art, with wine from a BOX???

edit -- or, as I hadn't seen the previous post (to this one), wot they said.

further edit --- oh my god, I hope those who responded to this rendition of a caricature that is nothing like me... realised it was that. :p I'll just assume, for the sake of my sanity, that they were being silly in turn.

Oh -- calm down about the cheap box of wine. Any terrible cheap white wine with sediment and too much unfermented sugar can be fixed by the addition of Fresca. ;)
